I’m a driver who has his own company looking to get my own authority. Thought that learning how to become a “professional” dispatcher would give me another skillset to draw from out there in the real world on the job. I’ve driven for companies and I’ve been an owner operator leased onto a major carrier doing intermodal drayage port and rail work hauling containers and tanks both Hazardous and non-hazardous. But take a look around see what you like and don’t like ask folks questions about their experiences and I’m sure they’ll share them with you. @Levonya Boone Congratulations on your LLC! That’s a challenging part no doubt but finding carrier that will trust you with their operation is what most don’t fully explain or understand from the drivers part. So try and start out where you can run into a lot of them and test out different means of communication where you try and understand FIRST what they bring to the table and what you bring to the table and see IF they even compare. IF they don’t then you’re in the right space to begin a conversation as to HOW you should listen first then process that information before speaking. That way your OPEN to the possibilities of learning something that you may not fully understand yet about this business you are getting yourself into. Hope that helps.

@Robert Flanagan IF I’m being honest, I’m looking to make myself into that dispatcher that I’d be looking for which is why I decided to join the community. That way I know what to expect from someone when they struggle in order to help them out as well as myself IF that makes sense. People approach this position like it’s not as hard as it truly is when you take into consideration what you are being asked to do and be responsible for and just how easily it can be like being in the “NFL” NOT FOR LONG…..club. Hope that helps to better understand my mindset.
