Have you ever started writing about one thing and discovered, three sentences later, that the real subject was something else entirely? I keep a journal beside my bed for exactly this reason. Sometimes my head is full of questions at night, all circling around with nowhere to go. I’ve found that even writing the questions down helps. Sometimes I answer them there and then, and sometimes I leave them until the morning when everything feels a little clearer. There’s something about putting a thought onto the page that changes it. It stops whirling quite so fast and becomes something I can actually look at. This week’s new Journal Well lesson is in the Classroom, and we’re looking at the difference between thinking and writing, plus a simple experiment to try for yourself.
