Practice Session: Hysteria (Muse)
Alright y'all, let me have it. This is the main riff from Hysteria by Muse, at increasing tempos 70bpm-93bpm (full tempo) in increments of 5. I had click in my ear, automatically increasing after every 2 passes through the phrase. Above 85, my consistency definitely deteriorates. 2nd bar has long been most challenging, but the floating/anchoring thumb has helped tremendously, and now the 3rd bar is my trouble spot, with coordination/timing between fretting fingers and plucking fingers being the big hurdle. Thoughts? Recommendations? Anything I'm missing?

Nice job getting it done and posting. That's the real win. The main win. Super hard lick. I learned it once. I can't play it right now. But it's a cool and super hard bassline to play. It was smart that you started it slow. That's a key thing to learn something really well. Just keep going. Practice getting more simple licks and grooves "locked in" to where you can play something for 2 full minutes that sounds killer. Locked. Full groove. Less notes. Maybe a bassline that has only 3 or 4 notes in it. ⚡️
Are you interested in learning to jam?
I’m thinking of building a course that specifically targets learning how to jam freely on your bass… I’d love to hear your thoughts and comments. Thx Murph⚡️

Motivation
Have you ever gotten frustrated and stopped playing for a few months? Then looked at your bass and just didn’t feel the motivation to pick it up and play? How did you finally get over that himp and start to play again?

@Dustin Vinson let's hear that song about chicken....
The video tells all … :(
WOW! It is WEIRD to see video of oneself playing bass. When we record the church livestream, the mix isn’t what is in the house and usually it sounds SOOO bad I don’t go back and listen. Today we had a pro come in and work the sound and EVERYONE was commenting after service about how good the sound was in the house. This was also a hard set for me this week … there was one song with weird syncopation and another that the WL didn’t have time to go over with me ahead of time … so ... I decided to watch it. Besides looking at how my bald spot keeps expanding, my waistline also is expanding … and I came in a few places wrong and the bass in the house didn’t sound like what I thought I was playing … SIGH. It’s damn easy to get frustrated. I know I can’t be a pro after only playing bass for almost two years … and I know that I’m way better than I was when I started … I hate the “stuck” feeling. I think sometime this week I’ll go back and watch the video again and try to be less critical of my “goofs” and make a few notes on what I did “right!” Apologies for the long post! Happy week to all!

Yes.. go back and watch it and for sure be less critical of yourself. Be stoked and give yourself a little bit of credit for posting at all. The most you post, the easier it gets and the more you will improve. Focus on the things you can control. Nice job.
We want to see you play
We want you to post videos of you playing. Nothing fancy at all. No special Camera. Just an iPhone or anything else you got lying around works great. Just post a minute or two of you playing. And share it to the group. Filming yourself and sharing is risky, it’s vulnerable, but it’s literally how you grow… and we all want to chime in and support you and talk about what we like in your playing - and what’s good in it. And it’s also the best way to find out what you need to work on. And that’s why you’re here. You have our support. Let’s see your bass videos. Post something… let’s GO! ⚡️
