The biggest leak 💦 in FREEMIUM communities
FREE → $9 → $19 is probably not the pricing strategy you think it is. This is one of the biggest leaks I see when I audit free → paid communities. We get nervous about asking people to pay, so we start really low. But if I’m already getting value for FREE, why would $9 suddenly make me want to upgrade? There needs to be a meaningful difference between Free and Premium. I’d rather see you start Premium around $49/month and increase it by $10 as the community grows, eventually capping around $99. You don’t need everyone to upgrade. You need the right people to see Premium and think: Yep. That’s where I need to be. Price for the transformation, not because you’re afraid people won’t buy.

@Tonia Stoney I never intended to price mine at $9 but while I was building it out it seemed like a good way to reward the early adopters and show me that there was interest. I've just finished fully putting together one of the core pieces of my community and we're about to start building the other one, so this seemed like a good time to raise it. It's a little scary and I do expect it to slow down with people upgrading once I've flipped the switch (later today), but I know what we're building next is worth more than even the higher annual price. Once I've got it all built I'll start stair-stepping it the way @Brenda Rigney suggested. I'm also learning to sell it better during this time!

@Tonia Stoney You too! Good luck!
Feeling Behind With Your Community?
If you... 👀 Haven’t launched your Skool community yet. 🤪 Launched it, but hardly anyone is joining. 😩 Keep looking at communities with hundreds or thousands of members and wondering what you’re doing wrong. 🥲 Or you’re starting to think, “Maybe this just isn’t going to work for me.” Keep going. Most successful communities look slow before they look successful. My first 18 months on Skool, I was making around $400 a month in recurring revenue. Today, my communities have grown to 13,000+ members and helped me build $10K–$15K months while working roughly 20–25 hours a week. There wasn’t one magical post that changed everything. ✅ I kept learning what worked. ✅ I changed my business model. ✅ I got clearer about who my community was for. ✅ I simplified my offers. ✅ I found better ways to bring the right people in. And I focused on three things: Traffic. Conversion. Retention. So if your community isn't growing yet, don't automatically assume the idea is wrong. Figure out where you're stuck. 🚀 Haven't launched? Pick a date and get it out there. 👋 Launched but nobody's joining? Look at your traffic and positioning. 💰 People are joining but nobody's buying? Look at your Free → Premium path. 🔄 People are buying but leaving? Look at retention. You don't need to have everything figured out today. You just need to know what problem you're solving next. Your community at 10 members doesn't need the same strategy as mine at 13,000. It needs the next right move. 🧡 Where are you right now?

I'm at just over 100 members, with a handful in premium. I'm increasing my premium pricing on Monday (and haven't really talked about it enough yet). I've just started playing with ads this week. I think one of the biggest challenges is getting all the things I want to get done - done. One thing I am feeling more relaxed about is experimenting. I'm not attached to someone leaving or choosing not to go premium. I'm better and better at seeing it as feedback and refining as I go. I have a huge vision, but it can't be implemented overnight. It's going to take time.

Thanks so much for creating this space @Brenda Rigney! This was my first bundle to participate in and I learned a lot in the process.

I loved our session with @Rositsa Aleksandrova a few weeks ago now. I was re-watching and pulled these gems from what she shared with us! What are you doing to create magic in your community? (let's share all we know with each other!!)

Yes need to go watch this session!
I switched my community to paid. 🤑 What I’m learning!
So about a week ago, I went from a Freemium watercolor painting community to making my standard tier $7. I know one week is a short time, but what I’ve learned so far is interesting: 1. My healthy stream of free members is now at a standstill. But I did expect that. 2. Growth Boost picked me up and folks started seeing me in ads within hours of making my community paid. TY those of you who sent me messages about this! 🙏 3. There was some website, IG, YouTube, Pinterest, and post copy to change/shift to reflect the 7 day free trial rather than free entry to the group. 4. I have a brand new YouTube video on my channel that talks about my free group (maybe before I made the group paid) and I’ll probably have to hide it for a while… 5. I’m focusing the energy I was using to welcome new members, on free members who may not know what premium or VIP can do for them. Right now, paid seems harder because - Despite some major growth boost ads, no $7 sales yet. - I feel like I’m speaking to 4 separate groups now instead of 3, and there were some significant changes to make not only in my copy, but in my positioning. I know it’s only been a week, but I’m really missing Freemium. Especially after listening to @Brenda Rigney’s new YouTube video on why her free groups are making more than her paid ones. Thankfully, this was just an experiment and I can change it back to Freemium anytime. Brenda, or some of you with paid groups, maybe you have some tips? 😊 Should I it more time? Or call it quits?

Interesting to hear the different takes on it. I think we can all relate to the feeling of "what should I do." I'm glad to hear growth boost is paying more attention to freemium and especially glad they added the upgrade buttons. I am planning to increase my premium price soon but keep pushing it back (it's coming though!) and I've decided to stay with Freemium for the time being, at least until I have a lot of my ideas actually built out. Best of luck to you!
