I've been building a Nimiq Pay mini app, and it's live: https://reef.nimiq.cafe Reef is an aquarium that grows out of your actual staking. Not a dashboard with fish drawn on it — the staking is the game. How it works You get one charge each epoch, so two a day, banking up to three. Spend one to cast a line and you'll pull something out: a guppy, a sea fan, an anemone, eventually a moray eel. Seventeen species, and everything you catch lives in your tank and swims around. The ponds are validators. Every staking pool is its own water — kelp forest, deep trench, cold current, six waters in all — and what lives there depends on which pool you fish. Fish NimiqPocket's kelp and you'll pull different things than you would from a trench. Once an epoch, one pond runs hot, and it's the same pond for everyone at the same moment, because Nimiq epochs are a clock we all share. Casting there is free — it costs no charge. It's the most Nimiq-native thing in the game: the chain decides when, and the chain decides where. What staking actually does - How much you stake sets the size of your tank — 3 slots with nothing staked, 12 at 10k NIM, 19 at a million. - How many days in a row you stake sets your odds of the rare stuff. The whale is a 365-day creature. - Break your streak and you keep every species you ever reached. You lose the odds until you build it back, never the access. You don't need to stake to play. With zero NIM you still get your two casts a day and a small tank. Staking just makes it grow. What it isn't There's no token, no NFT, nothing to buy, and no way to take money out. Reef pays out in fish. If that sounds like a strange thing to build in 2026 — the test I held it to was "would anyone open this if it were worth nothing?", and that's the only version I wanted to make. A few things to find Creatures aren't one sprite each. Crests, eyes, mouths and patterns combine into 1,344 to 5,376 distinct looks per species, and there's a 1-in-250 shiny — same creature, wrong colour, and it's noted in your collection when it turns up. You can also feed one other person's reef a day; it costs you nothing and gives them a bonus charge.
