Hi all! I have an 8 month old rescue Chihuahua cross and could use some advice on hyperfixation. Yesterday as the weather warmed up I turned the ceiling fan on for the first time and she got very spooked, and was barking and growling at it. I left it running for a bit hoping she'd desensitise but she didn't settle so I turned it off. For the rest of the day she was pacing, growling and couldn't be redirected at all. Fast forward to today — the fan hasn't been on at all but she is still pacing and growling at it. I tried removing her from the room but she's just pacing and staring at the ceiling in the hallway instead. She has completed the adolescent school and I've been trying the techniques I learnt but nothing is getting through because she is so heightened. Any advice on how to handle this would be really appreciated as we have no aircon 😂

Dog owners aren’t stupid. In fact, most are trying bloody hard to do the right thing. The problem is there’s a mountain of dog training advice that sounds completely reasonable, gets repeated everywhere, and often only tells half the story. 🤦‍♂️🐕 In this live, Matt and I unpacked 5 of the biggest ones we hear every bloody day. Harnesses will stop pulling. More exercise will fix crazy behaviour. Socialisation means meeting every dog. They’ll grow out of it. And the classic… “They KNOW what I’m asking, they’re just being stubborn.” Some of these might ruffle a few feathers 😂 but the goal isn’t to make anyone feel silly for believing them. We missed the 7 day challenge as I was unwell most of last week 🥲 But I thought I would share some footage we got over the weekend practicing our loose leash walking. Huge thank you to @Matthew Marsh for teaching me some drills to improve our walks. Training a sausage dog is not for the weak, and my back hurts from bending down to reward him, but the results are worth it! 🤩🩵🐾
