Practise Diaries — post your check-in here 📔
This is your spot to log what you're working on, whenever you practise. No pressure to post daily, just whenever you've had a session and want to note it down or share it. It could be something you've been working on, in your own time or with lessons with me. Anyone in here can post! Comment below with: 📅 Date: 🎻 What I worked on: ⏱️ Time practised: 🎉 One win: 🤔 One thing I'm stuck on: Doesn't need to be polished. A quick video or voice note works just as well if you'd rather show than write. I'll be dropping my own practise notes in here too, not just replying to yours. And if you've got a spare minute, leave a comment on someone else's check-in as well. Even just a "nice work" will help us all feel motivated to keep on keeping on! Drop your first check-in below 👇

@Michael Cormican well it sounds great to me - nice and clean, and really matching the articulation and feel, which is at least half the point of doing transcriptions I think similar to you I've been trying to learn more standards and finding that picking a solo to transcribe on each new tune really helps solidify the changes in my ear as well

@Michael Cormican brilliant! I'm going to have a go at this. I reckon the more you do the faster you'll get as well

Re licks and language for this, have you had a go at learning a some more rhythm changes heads, e.g. Anthropology, Moose the Mooche, Crazeology? Pick some you like, learn the heads by ear and get them into G, and you'll probably find snippets of them come out in your improvising like magic

Another day another Donna Lee key
Today I practiced the Donna Lee head in E - its still sloppy, but I was surprised that it was way easier to transpose than when I first transposed it to C, I guess practice makes it easier. Also I swung it a little bit 😉

I've found when learning stuff in multiple keys, the first transposition is the hardest, but after that you more or less break the back of it and start hearing it in intervals rather than relying on knowing which note is which or muscle memory. Very satisfying!
Donna Lee in Ab and C
Hi guys, been practicing Donna Lee for 2 days in Ab and C. My fingers are still wondering when playing in C, but tommorow will start working it in E too.

@Kaia K imo parker swings but at that speed it's a swing that is more about the weight/accent on certain notes rather than length of notes, which are all pretty much even length

Anyway you're both very impressive, I've nearly got this down in a couple of keys but I've got some work to do to get it so clean!
