With the Final Four set in the main bracket, it's time to get ruthless and start eliminating a bunch of fragrances from the second-chance bracket.

Match #61 gives us an old-school Chanel showdown: Platinum Égoïste versus Antaeus.

Platinum Égoïste is the brighter of the two—aromatic, fresh, green, and sophisticated. Lavender, rosemary, geranium, vetiver, oakmoss, and woods give it a classic barbershop character, but there's an elegance here that keeps it from ever feeling dated. It's mature and understated, yet still remarkably easy to wear.

Antaeus goes in almost the opposite direction. It's dark, brooding, earthy, and unapologetically masculine, built around patchouli, oakmoss, leather, woods, and that distinctive animalic edge. It develops beautifully and has considerably more drama than Platinum Égoïste.

Both are terrific. Both represent an older style of masculine perfumery that I increasingly appreciate. And I can easily imagine keeping both in my collection.

But this one isn't particularly complicated. It's simply a matter of preference. If I'm standing in front of the two bottles deciding which one I'd rather spray on myself, I'm reaching for Platinum Égoïste.

Chanel Platinum Égoïste advances. Antaeus is eliminated from the tournament.

No third chances from here on out. Things are about to get cutthroat.
