Matière Première Bois d’Ébène

The weather is finally starting to feel a little more like fall here in NY, so today I reached into the sample pile for something a little darker and woodier.

Today’s choice is Bois d’Ébène from Matière Première.

This is my first proper wear, and right away it feels much more in step with the season.

It has a dry, woody, slightly earthy character that feels grounded and warm without becoming heavy.

There is a bit of spice there too, but what I’m noticing most is how calm and put-together it feels.

After months of brighter citrus, florals and summer freshies, it is actually kind of nice to move into something with a little more depth. That seasonal shift is one of the things I really enjoy about fragrance.

The weather changes, the wardrobe changes, and suddenly bottles and samples that didn’t make sense a month ago start calling your name.

So far, a very nice first impression.
