Match #68
Match #68 in the second-chance bracket features two fragrances I've thoroughly enjoyed wearing throughout the summer—and honestly could wear during most of the year: YSL Y Le Parfum (2025) versus Giorgio Armani Acqua di Giò Profondo EDP. Profondo is everything I want from a warm-weather fragrance. It's fresh, clean, aquatic, and aromatic, with citrus and marine notes giving way to rosemary, lavender, mineral notes, and woods. It smells terrific, and I've already established that I prefer it to the original Acqua di Giò. But there's one problem: performance. On my skin, Profondo fades too quickly and never projects as much as I'd like. That's not necessarily fatal for a fresh fragrance, but it's noticeable when I'm wearing it side-by-side with Y Le Parfum. The YSL simply keeps going. It projects better, lasts considerably longer, and I get that combination of pine-tree freshness, ambroxan, and woods throughout the day. There's a brightness to it that works beautifully in warm weather, but enough substance underneath to make it useful well beyond summer. At this stage of the tournament, tiny differences are sending fragrances home. Today, performance is the difference. YSL Y Le Parfum (2025) advances. Acqua di Giò Profondo EDP is eliminated from the tournament. I still love the Armani and absolutely want it in my collection. But if I'm choosing one fragrance to spray in the morning and trust to stay with me throughout the day, the YSL wins.

Ralph Lauren Polo Blue EDP
This is a little more than SOTD, so I decided to put it in the general discussion. but it is what I am wearing today. I am a babe when it comes to fragrances. I research what I am going to try and usually the place I start is the visual guide to fragrances available here in the BoS classroom (which is where this picture is from). I pick three or four candidates, review other BoS comments for consensus, then purchase travel sprays for the top one or two so I can take them for a test run. Now, I don’t know about anyone else, but I am not wearing fragrances for anyone else but me (OK, the wife too). Others may, or may not benefit from my occasional olfactory sniffaries, but the bottom line for me is to wear something I enjoy and feel happy wearing. I say all that to say this. I am really enjoying Ralph Lauren Polo Blue. I just discovered it Spring of this year and it has been a mainstay through this rather warm Arizona summer. This has been one of the bests fragrances I have tried, The worst was Tom Ford’s Ombre Leather which smelled more like burn’t rubber to me, yuck!
