Lattafa Velvet Oud reminds me of going to Woolworth with my grandma and grandpa. There’s something familiar about it that brings back those memories. The leather smells amazing—like fresh leather in a new car—and the amber is distinct. I don’t pick up the oud, but honestly, my nose doesn’t really recognize that note yet. There’s also a faint citrus smell mixed with the woodiness. To me, it smells more like an orange tree than actual oranges. It’s a really good combination. I don’t get the harsh alcohol opening that some reviewers describe. The leather is present right from the beginning, and I really enjoy it. Although I find Tom Ford Ombré Leather far superior, Velvet Oud is a great affordable alternative for someone building a fragrance collection who is hesitant to spend the money on Ombré Leather. For me, this is definitely a cool-weather fragrance, and I’m keeping it in my rotation.
