The Love of God in Boundaries and Timing
After a challenging evening talking with my teenagers, I gained a deeper revelation of God's love. Sometimes, His love is expressed through what He doesn't give us and what He asks us to wait for.
We can desire something wholeheartedly and still lack the maturity, wisdom, or experience to steward it well. God isn't just interested in giving us what we want; He is preparing us to carry what He gives us.
“For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.” — Proverbs 3:12 (KJV)
Discipline and boundaries protect us, while hard work builds patience and humility. Sometimes, the process we want to escape is preparing us for what we desire.
Fear can also lead us to compromise our convictions in an attempt to prevent the very outcomes we dread. But faith trusts God's wisdom, even when obedience requires us to wait or stand firm.
Being prepared for the promise is just as important as receiving it.
Hebrews 12:11 (KJV) reminds us that correction may be painful in the moment, but it produces lasting fruit.
Reflective Question
Where are you allowing fear or impatience to override God's wisdom, and what might He be teaching you in the waiting?
