Hey everyone! 👋 I'm Jem
I run a VA placement agency that helps growing businesses find reliable virtual assistants for admin, customer support, operations, and other day-to-day work so founders can spend more time on growth. I joined because I'm always looking to learn from people who are building effective outreach systems. Consistent client acquisition is only one part of the equation, having the right support behind the scenes to keep up with that growth is just as important. 🙂 Looking forward to learning from everyone here and connecting with the community! 📈
I'm an AI engineer who thought sales was "vibes." Then I treated my DMs like a bug report. Closed 6 clients in 30 days. Here's what my nerd brain figured out.
Embarrassing admission: I used to think sales was for extroverts with good hair and better instincts. I'm an engineer. I have neither. So for years I outsourced sales, hated selling, and told myself "I'm just not that guy." Then I got tired of paying someone else 20% to send DMs I could send myself. And I did what engineers do when they don't understand something: I turned it into a data problem. Here's what my nerd brain figured out about DM sales that nobody in this space seems to talk about: 1. Your DM funnel is just a debug log. Every dead prospect is a stack trace. Instead of blaming "the market" I started tagging why each one died: - Ignored → opener problem - Replied but ghosted → hook wasn't strong enough - Booked but no-show → didn't earn the calendar slot - Showed up but didn't close → wrong fit OR wrong offer Once I could SEE the leak, fixing it took a week. Before that? I was rewriting my entire script every Monday like a chef who blames the recipe when the oven's broken. 2. Personalization is overrated. RELEVANCE is the game. "Hey Sarah, love your logo 🔥" is personalized. It's also useless. "Hey Sarah, saw you hired 2 SDRs last month — usually means you're about to hit the pipeline reporting nightmare I fix" is relevant. Personalization is about them. Relevance is about their next 30 days. Guess which one they reply to. 3. Volume without segments is just noise. I don't send 100 DMs a day. I send 20. But those 20 go to prospects who all triggered the same 3 signals in the last 7 days. Same pain = same message = 10x reply rate. Spraying "personalized" DMs to a random list is just artisanal spam. 4. Your CRM is lying to you. "Not interested" often means "not right now" or "not you specifically" or "you caught me on a Monday." I re-tag every "no" with a reason and a follow-up date. 30% of my closes come from prospects who said no the first time. 5. The DM is not the product. The FOLLOWUP is. Everyone obsesses over opener #1. Nobody obsesses over message #4. That's where the money is. My open rate on message #4 is higher than message #1 — because by then they've seen my name enough to be curious.

Instagram Account Warm-Up
Hey everyone, if any of you are doing Instagram DMs as outbound, how do you warm up accounts? I don't plan on buying them but creating the gmail from scratch and warming them up. The goal is to have 5 accounts running at limit which from what I've seen is 25 DMs/day. The online resources kind of say different methods. Do I really need to use proxies and vpns or could I do it lean, 5 accounts sending manually every day? Would love your input!
