📖 New Bible Study: Matthew 6:1–6
A new teaching is live, and it asks a question that cuts closer than expected: Who is your audience?
Jesus isn't concerned here with whether you give or pray. He's concerned with who you're doing it for. And his warning is sharper than it first appears.
Here's what caught my attention: when Jesus says the hypocrites "have received their reward," the word is a commercial term. It means "paid in full." The transaction is complete. They wanted to be seen, they were seen, and that's it. There's nothing more coming.
Before you dig into the full study, sit with the passage yourself:
- What's the difference between doing something publicly and doing something *to be seen*?
- Why does Jesus use the same phrase, "your Father who sees in secret," three times?
- What would it feel like to believe that hidden faithfulness actually counts?
