Today I got to give my mom a small piece of the life she never had. She raised eight kids in the poorest parts of LA, sleeping on a couch so we could have the beds, stretching church meals, and teaching me to work when work meant collecting cans before sunrise. Because of her sacrifice and by God’s grace, I now live a life she never got to experience. Getting her wheelchair down the steep slope to the pool wasn’t easy, but every careful step was worth it. As I helped her into the water, I realized, “She spent her life sacrificing for my future, now I get to sacrifice for her comfort.” Life has come full circle. The Bible says, “Honor your father and your mother.” I’m in my 50s now, and I know one day my kids may be in my shoes. I hope they see that love in action. Mom, everything I have is built on what you gave. Now it’s my turn to give back.
