Issues with patching holes

I am working on the helmet course and have hit a snag. When I go to patch this hole it acts totally diferent from the video despite following the directions step by step. When I patch this hole I get theis weird lattice effect and it only works with G0. I get an error if I select G1 anywhere on the shape so if anyone has any tips or ideas I would appreciate it. I have started from scratch twice now and have gotten as little frustraited with failed troubleshooting. Thanks.
