The Tsar Bell in Moscow was cast in 1735 for Empress Anna Ivanovna, weighing over 200 tons and standing 6.14 metres tall, and it has never rung. A fire in 1737 cracked it and broke off an 11-ton fragment before it ever left the casting pit. It remains the largest bell in the world, a monument to Russian grandeur that was built to be heard and never made a sound.
