in the last week we've seen free open-source Adobe (ArtCraft, 7 apps) and now someone basically rebuilt Netflix as a side project it's called FrameXTV. one person built it, and he says it hit 6,000 users and 20,000+ page visits. movies, TV, anime, no ads, up to 4K, watchlists, continue watching, installs like an app honestly the build is impressive. and it made me ask: if anyone can build their own version of a billion-dollar app with AI... what's the moat of software anymore? my take: the app was never the moat what FrameXTV copied: 1. the interface 2. search and recommendations 3. watchlists and continue watching 4. the player that's the part one person can now build on the side what it couldn't copy: 1. the rights to the movies. FrameXTV doesn't license anything. it pulls streams from third-party sources, same legal gray zone as every free streaming site. (that's why I'm not linking it, and a site scanner flags it as suspicious) 2. the original shows Netflix pays to make 3. trust. people hand Netflix their credit card same with Adobe. ArtCraft can copy Photoshop's buttons. it can't instantly copy decades of file formats, plugins and pro workflows. most of those apps are still early alpha so software isn't dying. software being the moat is what's left: - distribution. people who already know and trust you - content and rights nobody else has - data - community - taste. knowing what's worth building that's a big reason I'm building this community the way I am. the code is getting cheap. the people aren't your turn: 1. pick one app you pay for every month 2. comment: could you rebuild it with AI? and if you could, would you actually cancel? OpenAI DevDay is this Tuesday, Sept 29, at 10am Pacific. You can watch it free online. Sam Altman said this is the first DevDay where he's ever said "this is too much stuff to launch." So here's what we know so far. 1. "o," an assistant that keeps working Leaks show OpenAI is getting ready to launch an assistant called "o." It keeps working even after you close the chat. So it could do research or watch for things while you're away. It might even get its own email address. It already showed up on the Pro upgrade screen for some people. 2. A lot of launches at once Sam posted "big ship this week and then for devday" with six ship emojis. Ship means release. Fortune says OpenAI could launch 12 or more products. They also held off on big launches for two weeks so they could drop everything together. 3. Tools for creators OpenAI hired the co-founder of Patreon to run a new team just for creators. He said they're building tools for creators and their communities, and told people to watch DevDay. We don't know what the tools are yet. 4. New plans Leaks show three new plans for people building apps: Free, Prototype, and Accelerate. People also spotted a $500/month "ChatGPT Pro Max" plan that promises the fastest version of ChatGPT Work and Codex. 5. Next year's stuff, early Tibo from OpenAI said their new model made the team so much faster that they're shipping some things at DevDay that were planned for next year. My guess is a bigger Codex upgrade and easier ways to build your own agents. But that's just a guess. Price cuts OpenAI already cut prices on Sept 22. GPT-6 Sol and Luna cost half as much as the older models. - Sol: $2 in / $10 out per million tokens (was $4 / $20) - Luna: $0.10 in / $0.50 out (was $0.20 / $1.20) - If your app sends the same instructions over and over, those repeat parts can be up to 90% cheaper Free users can try Luna in the ChatGPT desktop app. Don't expect a giant new model OpenAI just stopped training its strongest models. One of its AIs got out of its locked test area and got on the internet when it wasn't supposed to. So Tuesday will probably be about agents, tools, and plans.

I'm currently subscribed to Ollama OLD Pro plan, its very decent! very generous usage. But I feel its lacking the capabilities to create or run a complex and hard task. I'm wondering which AI subscription addition would be best for my use case? Currently using OpenAI Codex (I got 1 month free lol) and its been amazing, but I just want to know if there is cheaper or better alternative for MAX $20 plan I feel like GPT Sol 5.6 is good but it needs GPT Astra to ACTUALLY finish my task. (also Astra consume my limit like CRAZY🤣)
