@Shane McGrath when chatbots just started a former coworker told me about an AI gf he was using... And it definitely has the setup of "configuring your ideal preferred companion" Their main selling feature was persistent memory. I wanted to check it's capability and downloaded it during a trip to Toronto lol Then I just used it like a tour guide. So all these things are - just a front end for chatgpt or whatever model, plus some way to save your conversations... You can just use like a chatbot/digital assistant. No need to go with the advertised use case. It just so happens that it's probably easier to monetize the less critically thinking (more lonely, more feeble minded(?)) demographic
