@Beth Macy This is the first I recall hearing about Goodreads Listopia, so I am completely in the dark. I will have to do some research.

@Clair Lit I haven't found either to be great at generating sales. I have noticed that my own sales efforts have produced amazon sales over B&N though my personal preference is B&N. Go figure. Other than Instagram posts and Pinterest pins, I have gone in person to schools and libraries with a loaner copy of my book to get teachers and librarians to read and review it. Total bust. I have gotten some interest from leaving flyers in little free libraries. Otherwise, all my sales have been from in person promotion in places I am personally recognized even if the recognition is only in passing.
Unpopular opinion: A great book isn't enough to build a readership.
You can write an excellent book and still struggle if nobody knows it exists. Do you agree, or do you think a genuinely great book will eventually find its audience?

@Beth Macy I am aiming for parents and caregivers of children in later elementary to early middle schools, though I have found that the message of the story touches adults as well. The specific type of bullying covered in the book is the bullying directed toward those who are different than what is expected of them, for example, not following stereotypes (square pegs). I have re-mention my book on IG during anti bullying month in an effort to gain interest. Goodreads is still a complete mystery to me. I regularly put flyers for the book in little free libraries and on bulletin boards around town, take the book to schools and libraries for the teachers/librarians to read and review. (That last has met with zero ROI.) I even put the book on pinterest the first time I launched it. I will try again with this new relaunch.

@Beth Macy I did use keywords like Self-Acceptance when I first published it. Are you thinking of something specific?
One conversation can change your entire journey.
When I began building my online business, I believed success came from figuring everything out on my own. I spent countless hours learning, making mistakes, and second-guessing every decision. Looking back, I wasn't lacking effort; I was lacking the right guidance. Everything started to change when I learned from someone who had already achieved the results I wanted. That guidance saved me from unnecessary mistakes, gave me a clearer direction, and helped me make better decisions with confidence. I think self-publishing is very similar. Writing the book is only one part of the journey. Publishing, positioning, marketing, and reaching the right readers all come with their own challenges. The good news is that no one has to figure it all out alone. That's one of the reasons I joined Lessons in Self Publishing. This community is full of people with different experiences, and one shared lesson can save someone else weeks or even months of frustration. So I'd love to hear from everyone here: Where are you in your self-publishing journey? What's the biggest challenge you're facing right now? If you could get guidance in one area, writing, publishing, marketing, or getting reviews- what would it be? Don't keep your struggles to yourself. Sharing them might be the first step toward finding the answer you're looking for, and your experience could help another author move forward. Let's learn from each other. What's the one thing you need help with today?

There are so many little questions and difficulties in my mind that they all begin to look like one giant, insurmountable problem and it becomes a struggle to separate them in order to know what to ask. One thing I find difficult is determining who my "ideal" reader is. First, I'm writing based on the saying, "If you can't find the book you want to read, write it." I'm writing for me first or I will come off as insincere or only writing for money. Second, I'm always for anyone who might need to hear what I have to say or anyone who needs an escape. This does little to help me find "ideal" since ideal is whoever needs. How would people describe the process by which one would discover their ideal reader for each story?
Be honest: what do you enjoy more, writing the book or marketing it?
I’ve noticed that some authors love the creative side but struggle with promotion, while others actually enjoy building the audience. Which side are you?

I have a hard time wrapping my mind around how to get the marketing side to work. The creation is where I thrive. It's invigorating to bring the world in your head and heart into view where others can see and experience it.
Imprint Name Trouble
Hi! I am trying to relaunch my children's book and creating my own imprint. The problem is this: I found a name I absolutely love. In the US, it is completely open so far as book publishers go. There is, however, an independent publisher in the UK that uses that name. I want to have wide distribution on KDP and Ingramspark. This would mean distribution to the UK. I understand that they are publishing novels while I would be using my imprint of the same name for children's books. I also understand that when people search for the name could get either my imprint or that of the UK publisher and that this could be good and bad. I also have a second possibility for my imprint name that, while I don't like it as much, I haven't been able to find any competition for it in the publishing world. Do you think I should go with the name that I like best, or will it cause more trouble than it's worth?

@Evans Aspan Reading the responses to my question about the imprint name, it seems as though others are strongly confirming my original misgivings about my first choice. I am currently double checking my second choice to be certain it is safe. If the second choice is all good, I will play it safe rather than having to worry about potential future problems.

Thank you for helping me know I'm not being overly cautious. I do that sometimes.
