Suggestion for M_dot_C
I've noticed several times when "time" becomes an issue. Things get changed and people get confused as to what time a thing is going to happen in their location. Why don't you switch to 24 hour UTC time? That way everyone knows what time the event will be occurring even if they are traveling. People in fixed locations can simply learn their offset. Or they can simply type in... "What time is it in [ my city ] at 17:30 UTC 11/15/2026? Most everyone's phone, tablet, computers are tied to UTC and they will get an exact time. Aviation is all tied to UTC/Zulu. 2026-09-28T16:52:00Z Year-Month-Day(T=Time)Hour(in 24 format):Minute:Seconds(Zulu = tied directly to UTC:00:00) But again any search engine can convert normal spoken words. So "The show starts at 13:00 ( 1PM ) UCT on October 2nd" works just fine. If you live on east coast USA that's 9AM EDT 10/02. If you live in Madrid it's 15:00 ( 3PM )11/02 When a contest ends "at midnight" it's much more easily understood and can not be improperly calculated if the contest ends at 23:59 UCT 10/01/2026. It would simply eliminate all confusion even as time zones change through travel or seasonal standard vs daylight savings. Also it seems to me if you had an instructor in different time zone or a mentor call and one party or both need to quickly coordinate a time. Anyway just a thought. If it saved everyone a couple minutes on all the varied communications, videos, etc., it would seem worth it in the long run.

I'd say more people can figure out the 12 hour clock and their time zone than would be able to a 24 hour UTC time. The times adjust for each persons time zone automatically and we've really had very little problems with it. If someone is confused or wants confirmation, just message me or [email protected]. Of the thousands of members and students we have, we've only had a handful of people with issues, and mostly that is when the DST kicks in or out. Changing our whole setup for those few would cause more problems than it would solve, in my opinion. But we are always open to suggestions.
I hope I’m not breaking any rules
If so, I understand if an admin would take this down. Fellow Mastering.com songwriter, Artists, and engineers, I’m developing an opt-in Song Development Artist Directory as part of my Musician Love. The goal is to help song buyers find participating music creators by instrument or vocal role, genre, style, and approved music samples. I’m inviting a small first group to consider being listed, and I’d value input from people who care about craft and how music is presented. Joining the roster doesn’t commit you to a project or guarantee one. Before any project begins, we’ll agree in writing on its scope, fee, and credit. You’ll approve your profile and sample links, and you can request removal from the roster. The current registration form is for singers, engineers, and instrumentalists: https://api.usegoplus.com/widget/form/XyQaAwpAPWuzLj6dqGHR If your specialty is production, recording, mixing, or mastering, please reply with your role and I’ll note the interest as I shape that part of the directory. Thanks in advance! Tony Dee

@Rob Mayzes will have to ok or nix this ... we have to be careful what we let get promoted in the community or it will turn into one big ad / marketing page.
Downloading Updated Digital Cheatsheet Binders
Can someone tell me where I can find the link to download the latest version of the Mixing & Mastering Cheat sheet binder? I've got the older version and I'm wanting the latest one. Thanks.

DAW?
In the Classroom I know they are using Logic, but I need help with FL Studio every class I have gone into is every DAW all except FL. I hate to ask this but is there videos that can be Created kindly and respectfully by one of you mentors to put into the current classroom? also I know one of the mentors on here use FL but they are not a part of the VIP membership pack as I was told. Feel kinda at a loss

There is also an FL Studio Tutorial in the Major DAW Tutorials in the Classroom section.
Gain Reduction vs Normalization (Foundation First > Organising Session > Gain Staging)?
I've been following the Mixing & Mastering Cheat Sheet Binder Course, with a fresh new project to follow along with. At the initial Gain Staging step of '12 Steps to Organise Your Session' I have come across a dilemma: In my DAW (Sonar) I can select all clips and then choose the following effects from the Process menu: 'Gain' - to cut or boost all clips by a specific number of decibels. 'Normalize' - to cut or boost all clips to peak at a specified level of decibels. My instinct is to use the Gain process so that the loudest clip peaks at the desired maximum level, but the rest of the clips are only adjusted relatively by the same amount, preserving the dynamics of the overall performance (ie quieter verses will still be quieter than loud choruses). Is there an argument to use the Normalization process instead, making all clips and song-sections peak at the same level and then restoring the performance dynamics at a later stage in the mix?

The main thing to watch out for is how does the specific DAW handle the options for gain. You have to choose the option that adjusts each track's clips based on IT'S peak, not those in another track or clip.
