Can you Make A Living Without "Working"?
Service can be such a misunderstood word for people who want to do work that matters. Most of them are not out there trying to serve you. They are doing what they love, doing it well, and you happen to benefit. That is what I call service through the act of living. When you live the life you actually want to live, you cannot help but create value for other people. It spills over. And that value is what ends up paying for the life. I lived and traveled for nearly ten years in a van that I turned into a livable space. I called it my Mobile Domicile. People always asked: "How can you afford to travel all the time?" I gave away balloon animals. I did not sell them. I gave them away, and people gave away money, on their own. And just to be transparent, I was not on a mission. I was not out there doing "service." I was living the life I wanted, and the living of it happened to put a smile on somebody's face. Over the years that voluntary income added up to more than half a million dollars. Most of us were taught it the other way around. You serve somebody else's purpose, and you get paid. Then, if you plan it well, or get lucky, you get to live someday. What if you flip the script and start by looking at what you already do just by being you, that other people value? It is probably closer than you think! That's how you create a Self-Sustaining Life.

That’s a very interesting way of looking at things and to some extent is the way I think too. I will give it more thought and see what happens.

The way you tell your story is so important for the outcome. I have one friend who always says he has never taken time of work through illness apart from when he was in a car accident and was told he would never walk properly again, he now walks just as he did before the accident. The other friend, when he hears about someone being ill always says "I get that too", He now looks older than his years, is almost totally deaf, has had a back operation for something that would have cured itself with rest and if I ring him his wife says "he's not very well at the moment". Think well and be well, hope it all goes well for you on Friday (I'm sure it will) and tell us your positive story soon Matthew.
WHAT IF WE MEASURED SUCCESS DIFFERENTLY THIS WEEK?
Not by how many leads we generated. Not by how many sales we made. Not even by how many new connections we collected. Instead: How many people did we actually HELP? Did you make an introduction? Answer someone's question? Share something you learned? Connect someone with an opportunity? Spend 20 minutes listening to what somebody else is trying to accomplish? Imagine what happens inside a community when enough people start thinking that way. Everybody doesn't need the same business. We just need a common goal of helping each other move forward. So here's the challenge: Help ONE person in this community win this week without expecting anything in return. Then watch what starts happening around you.

We all need a little help sometimes, we don't always know that we do.

I totally agree. In my last office job I took over a job from a colleague that used to take her all morning and sometimes more. I looked at the whole process and was able to cut the time down to between 1 & 2 hours. My colleague was furious and complained to my boss who looked at the changes a wanted to make and agreed with all of them. Many hours or even days were saved by doing this, it just needed some good thought putting in to it.
