I went on a little fragrance hunt today and the stores felt like they were working against me. Ulta was my first stop, and the two women there were aggressively unhelpful. They told me that “no store gives or sells samples,” which made me wonder if I have been imagining every decant I have ever owned. Their only real success was being rude enough that Ulta gift cards are now off my list. Sephora gets the win there. JC Penney was the complete opposite. Aly was friendly, helpful, and since they do not do vials she sprayed me up five times. In the end, they made me the sample and I brought the scent home on my skin for my wife to test out. The only letdown was how small their assortment was compared to what I expected. So today’s test subject and SOTD is Carolina Herrera Bad Boy Parfum. At first it hit me with a kind of “bag of weed” vibe. I have never smoked it, but you cannot be a SoCal guy in your fifties and claim you have never smelled it. That said, I liked it and so did my wife. Because Aly was so helpful and earns commission, I blind bought the last bottle of Montblanc Explorer Ultra Blue they had on clearance for sixty dollars. Back home, my wife and I both liked it after a test spray. Now I am wearing Montblanc on the left side and Bad Boy on the right, which means it is going to be an interesting night as they both develop. Anyone else get that same vibe off Bad Boy Parfum, or is it just me?
