Natural Building in South Africa.
Hi everyone. We are on farm outside Uniondale, Little Karoo, Western Cape, South Africa. We, my wife, daughter, son and daughter in law have been living here Off The Grid for 8 years. Our house is built using, Cob, Strawbales, Rock and Mesh, Cordwood, Adobe Bricks and Wattle n Daub. I hold bi annual workshops here on the farm to enable students to learn the process and to earn a bit of a' income. We grow our own vegetables and have fruit trees. All organic.

Beautiful!
Small Projects
In preparation for big projects(I want to build a toilet structure next, and then a house) I built a cob greenhouse wall along with a simple cob garden wall (both have lime plaster on them for longevity). One wall I left unplastered just to see what would happen to it over time. So far they've weathered freezing temps, snow, ice, wind, storms, etc. Nothing much has happened :) Would like to get some more experience/ideas for optimal structural integrity-preferably with raw wood rounds, recycled material, etc. I snagged these windows on the greenhouse for free but they are quite old and not fit for a livable structure.

Im Angel. Ive been interested in cob and natural building for about 20 years. I built a couple of cob ovens at rainbow gatherings. We had a blast. Currently I. Leaning toward rammed earth but i live in a very humid and wet climate Mississippi gulf coast. Im not crazy about adding cement to the mix.... my bottle neck is researching how to handle the very wet climate and my knees are not great so ill get to figure a way to be on my feet for multiple hours. Im looking forward to getting started. Oh and I have a small farm so I have land free and clear.
