You Do Not Have to Be A Writer: From Memory to Memoir
Good afternoon. I’m Dr. Beth. If the word memoir makes you want to close the tab, stay a minute. From Memory to Memoir is not a class on how to write a book. It is one hour. One memory. One scene you can finish before the cup gets cold. You do not need a dramatic life. You do not need to call yourself a writer. A lot of the people I sit with are teachers and parents who spend the day getting other people’s words on the page, and their own story stays in the drawer. We will do the same small thing I do with a child who says they have nothing to write. Three boxes on a page. Beginning, middle, end. Then we leave the boxes and write the one part that still itches - one part that speaks to you. A face. A room. A sound. Wednesday, October 21, at 1:00 PM Central. Inside Joan Raymond’s room, A Heart for Writing. The Literacy Lounge is hosting me there and it is free to join. If you only listen, that counts too. The replay will be posted there and in The Literacy Lounge. You do not have to wait. Looking forward to seeing you.

Is it ever ok to do more than one per event? or is 1 enough? @Heather Wilson
From Memory to Memoir - October 21st @ 1:00 p.m. CST
Hi! I’m Dr. Beth. A lot of us have a story sitting in a kitchen drawer. A letter. A photo. A day we can still smell. We keep meaning to write it down, and then the week happens. Come sit with me for From Memory to Memoir: Mapping Reading and Writing Journeys. One memory. One scene you can actually finish. Not a whole book in an afternoon. We will create our reading and writing timelines. Then we leave the timelines and write the part that itches. A detail you can see, hear, or smell. Spelling is not the story. The story is the thing that made you sit down. Finally, we will examine some of the strategies you will find in The Literacy Lounge. I will be conducting the session From Memory to Memoir on Wednesday, October 21, at 4:00 PM CST, inside Joan Raymond’s community, A Heart for Writing. The Literacy Lounge is hosting me there. It is free to join the community and the live session. Bring a memory, a notebook, and a cup of something warm. If you only listen, that counts too. Join A Heart for Writing: https://www.skool.com/a-heart-for-writing-3130 to access the session. Find out more about Dr. Beth in The Literacy Lounge: https://www.skool.com/the-literacy-lounge-1481/about What memory has been waiting? You do not have to tell the whole tale. A yes is enough. Looking forward to seeing you on the 21st.

Well, I did ask you what you'd like us to talk about at our next Coffee, Chat & Collab, and you voted for 𝗚𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗨𝗽! Clearly, a few of us have experienced the joy of people registering for an event and then disappearing off the face of the earth when it's time to turn up! 😂 So that's what we're going to get our teeth into. I've got a few ideas up my sleeve, but I also want to hear yours. What's worked for you? What hasn't? And what could we all be doing differently to make sure people actually show up? Come and pick my brain, share a bit of your own wisdom, and let's see if we can all walk away with a better plan for our next event. Because we can spend all the time in the world promoting our events, but if nobody turns up, we're rather missing the point, aren't we? ☕ 𝗖𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲, 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁 & 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯 🇺🇸 New York — Tuesday 13 October, 8 PM 🇳🇿 New Zealand — Wednesday 14 October, 1 PM https://www.skool.com/skoolevents/calendar?eid=796be67a1d9a41bda6e335c25a5a0405 So, who's coming along? And more importantly, 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽? 😂
