Aug 20 update - lacrosse culture and workout
**Workout** Today I was in the hotel with nothing but dumbbells, and I spent the first few minutes looking for excuses to skip it. Forced myself to do something instead. Mimicked the tonal workouts with dumbbells as best I could and knocked out a quick 20 minutes — definitely felt the burn in the arms. Better to do something than nothing. **Lacrosse Culture Statement** I've been working the culture statement 1-on-1 with folks, gathering feedback before I take it to the board. That led me to a youth volunteer coach — a dad who coaches 8U/10U. I'd never met him; someone suggested I should. Turns out he's a career player, including at the collegiate level. Once I showed him my drafts and where I'm trying to take the culture statements, he was all in and gave a ton of positive feedback. He's also massively invested in the history of lacrosse and started data dumping on me. It was fascinating — I hadn't looked any of this up yet. He walked me through the history and how it's an honor that the part of Pennsylvania we live in sits right in the heart of the Indigenous nations that originated the sport. Our school district is literally Seneca Valley. He had tons of ideas from things he's done in the past to help the kids really embrace belonging. One that stuck with me: putting shooting string bracelets on all the kids at the start of the season and having them leave them on all season — a visible sign of belonging to the tribe, the sport, and each other. We're now going to join forces and work on this together. **Next Steps** I'm reviewing a series of history videos he shared, then revisiting the culture statement to make sure it aligns with that history. On his first review, he said he really liked the short one-line statement. He's on board to help educate the entire board and coaching staff on our culture once we've got it dialed in, and to run culture and morale camps with all the coaches and kids. We had a 45-minute call and it was all extremely high energy. Looking forward to working through the challenges of getting this rolled out.

August 20 check in
Another grind - picked up a piece of work from a struggling team member: the work is right up my alley but throws out the whole schedule. Morning meditation routine set the tone, I should just get my ass door first thing too. But my gown & Garfield slippers are super comfy in this weather. Very nice hike this afternoon, down to a waterfall & back up again. I like stairs more than slopes. Had some strong "just once won't hurt" flashes this afternoon, a bottle of wine at the beach on a sunny afternoon after a hard day....it was different though, a little easier to see it for what it is. Sober Thursday. Falling behind on the Wilder Origin goals - right now, I'm just hoping to tick off a big one on the day job tomorrow (due Monday) so that I don't have to put in time over the weekend. It's a little frustrating but at the same time I'm so grateful to not only have a job, but also one that is fun in its own way and gives me a fair bit of freedom.

Did it add extra work on your plate picking that up ? That is nice having a day job that isn't a grind to get by , not everyone can say that.

Mighty Woden's Day
Big, epic 100 person ropes course all day in the heat. Did some good deeds and shared a bunch of wisdom to a bunch of young folks. Will knock out a smidge of writing after I group.
