1 contribution to Openly Aging
What scares you the most about getting older?
Getting older brings a lot of changes. It is something we all experience differently. The thing I hear the most at the nursing home I work is 'I never thought I would end up like this'. When you think about aging, what honestly worries or scares you the most? It’s not always easy to talk about, and there’s no right or wrong answer here. If you feel comfortable sharing, I'd really like to hear your thoughts.

Years ago while in myearly20's, I watched my father deteriorate and struggle with dementia. What scares me most is I watched him work so hard for all those years, making sacrifices for us. To all the days and nights of confusion and having my mother make all his decisions for him. From selecting his clothes, what he ate and exhausting her with his care. Although I would relieve her to make sure, she could get a decent night's rest, it was without a doubt tough. It got to the point where decision had to be made that he needed to go to a nursing home. I would never want to put that strain on my family now that I am a newbie senior.
