Hengaw – Wednesday, October 7, 2026 The Iranian judiciary has sentenced lawyer Bahareh Aghaei, currently held at Qarchak Prison in Varamin, to 20 years in prison. According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Aghaei was sentenced on charges including “propaganda against the state,” participating in protests, and helping the families of protesters killed during the demonstrations. During the January 2026 protests, Aghaei posted stories on social media expressing support for the demonstrations. Iranian security forces also photographed and filmed her attending a ceremony marking the 40th day since the death of Sepehr Shokri, who was killed during the protests. Aghaei was arrested on the evening of Saturday, April 4, 2026, when Iranian security forces raided her home. She was initially held at an Intelligence Department detention facility before being transferred to Qarchak Prison in Varamin. During the raid, Iranian security forces searched her home and confiscated her mobile phone and electronic devices belonging to members of her family.

The Islamic Republic authorities have barred Roya Sabet, a Baha’i prisoner at Adelabad Prison in Shiraz, from attending her mother’s funeral. They had also denied her permission to visit her hospitalized mother before her death and repeatedly rejected her requests for medical leave despite serious health problems. According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, authorities rejected Sabet’s request for leave on October 5, 2026, to visit her mother, Nosrat Momtaz, who was hospitalized at the time. Hengaw – Friday, October 9, 2026 At least five prisoners, including a woman and two Lor men, have been executed in recent weeks at prisons in Shiraz, Dezful, Karaj and Sari. All five had been sentenced to death on murder charges. According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mehdi Alizadeh, a resident of Shiraz, was executed at Adelabad Prison in the city at dawn on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, after being convicted of murder. On the same day, Ahmad Nikdel, a 44-year-old Lor man, father of three and laborer, was executed at Dezful Prison. He had been sentenced to death under Iran’s qisas (retributive justice) laws in connection with a killing that occurred during a workplace dispute. Also on October 7, an unidentified prisoner was executed at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, according to the state-affiliated Javan newspaper. The prisoner had previously been sentenced to death for a murder committed during a street altercation. In an earlier execution, Mohammadreza Azizhaji, a 30-year-old Lor man from a village near Dezful, was executed at Dezful Prison on September 23, 2026. He had been sentenced to death in connection with a fatal confrontation involving his brother’s creditors. On September 30, 2026, Ashraf Faraji, a 57-year-old woman originally from Ahvaz who resided in Sari and was the mother of four children, was executed at Sari Central Prison. She had been sentenced to death for killing her husband during a domestic dispute. According to information received by Hengaw, Faraji had been receiving psychiatric care. Hengaw – Wednesday, October 7, 2026 Abbas Anjomrouz, a 28-year-old university student sentenced to death under qisas (retributive justice) for “murder,” has been executed at Jiroft Central Prison. Based on information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Anjomrouz, from Jiroft, Kerman Province, was executed at dawn on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Hengaw sources said he was arrested about six years ago following a group altercation in which one person was fatally shot and was subsequently sentenced to qisas by the Iranian judiciary. He continued his university studies throughout his imprisonment. Over the years, extensive efforts were made to secure forgiveness from the victim’s family. Although the victim’s mother agreed to forgive Anjomrouz, the victim’s brother insisted on qisas, and the execution was carried out. Iranian state media and judicial authorities have not announced the execution.
