Wow, I did not know that there was Hemp insulation now you could buy. I’ll have to look into that. I would be totally open to putting that inside the Pallets last few projects I’ve been putting Rockwall insulation inside the pallet, which is a volcanic the salt rock that’s been heated up and so there’s lots of air pockets in it. I’ll have to look into where I can get Hemp insulation. I have done some building with him, but I leaned more towards the Pallets & cob because it’s much more accessible, and usually Hemp is a bit more of a process to acquire. Thanks for sharing Nina.

Would love to meet some of you there, I’m planning my trip now, I’ll likely stay 10-14 days so I will travel on afterwards or pickup work to help out at other properties I’m Alec, I’m a certified general contractor, designer and musician! I’ve been in construction since I was 8 years old and wanting to transition to working WITH the Earth instead of against her! Let’s connect and work together 🖤⚔️🖤

Thanks for reaching out Alec! Hopefully there will be some more folks in this Community who will coordinate and travel together. I will be going a week early on October 22 to gather materials together and start the layout. Will be great if you can stay on after the 3rd to help with some of the finishing touches and all… We’ll be creating a What’s App group soon with everyone who iis attending the workshop so we can communicate with each other there. See you next month! Migz
Making and applying a clay paint
Here’s a little demo on making a clay paint to put over an earthen plaster. Its main purpose is to smooth out the surface, give it a nice color and help to shed water off the wall. It’s basically a mixture of equal parts fine Sand, sifted clay and either flour paste or methyl cellulose which I got from a company called Clay Hill plaster in Oregon. You can find it online. To make it it’s one part powder to about 100 parts water so a little bit goes a long way. The only reason I’m not using flour paste here is there is some concerns about possibility of molding here in Oregon, where it rains a lot in the winter which I’ve never experienced, but some folks here apparently have if there is concern about that, you could also add borax to the mix to help prevent molding. The water glass I’m referring to here in the video is also called sodium silicate which is a mixture of silica sand and soda ash heated up and made into a liquid solution. I found this online. It needs to be diluted at least 50% with water. I tried diluting it with just 30% and had a major case of efflorescence, so I had to scrape off the layer and applied a coat of clay plaster and clay paint again. .
