WHAT’S THE PURPOSE OF YOUR WEEKEND RUN?
Lots of runners will head out for a longer run this weekend. But before you start, ask yourself one question: What am I trying to achieve from this session? Is it to: ✅ Build easy aerobic endurance? ✅ Practise holding a controlled pace? ✅ Get comfortable spending longer on your feet? ✅ Test your fuelling? ✅ Recover and enjoy an easy social run? ✅ Build confidence before an upcoming race? “Running as far as possible” isn’t always the right answer. A productive long run should support the rest of your training, not leave you so exhausted that the next few days are written off. Share your weekend run below: 1. How far or how long are you planning to run? 2. What effort or pace are you aiming for? 3. What is the main purpose of the session? Putting that into words before you run can stop an easy session from becoming an unnecessary race against yourself or Strava. Let’s hear what everyone has planned. 👇

I've done my long run for this week so a 10k trail tomorrow. This will make my nearly 38k weekly target. 10 weeks out from first marathon. Good to have made it to two fitness sessions with John this week to break it up a bit 👍

Weekly Running Round Up
My running podcast reached 100 episodes last week Very proud of this Interviewed some very cool and inspirational people as well If you haven't checked it out, the link is at the bottom I had some messages from people whom I have interviewed as well Some of them are talking about the "lull" post-race See, doing a big race is a big deal Especially if it's your first marathon After this, it's normal to have a come down Because the big one takes a lot out of your life It's 4 months (at least) of training plus all the bells and whistles of the day This is a lot of time to devote to something So after the finish line, post-race buzz and medal Monday? There is a gap I get it, I have been there myself This is why every year I do 1 marathon, 2-3 halves, and Hyrox (as long as I can get in) Listen, you probably can't do multiple marathons per year But there is a risk with the "lull" You completely throw the towel in See, most people soothe negative emotions with behaviours that don't encourage fitness/running Eating, drinking, scrolling, and working These things fill the "gap" that training left And if you are lucky? After a few months, you catch yourself and get back on the horse If you are not so lucky or self-aware? That becomes years You start to lose fitness after a few weeks So, imagine what a few years will do? Listen, it's okay to feel down after a big race But don't let yourself spiral too much You still have time to train for an autumn marathon Definitely have time for a Spring one So, if you want help stopping the drift and getting back to it? Drop me a reply and let's chat. Until next time. John
