Your Vocal Folds Create Sound. Your Resonance Shapes It.
I'm Corinne Bach, founder of Bach School of Voice in Tampa, Florida. I teach singers ages 12 and up, and one of the things I spend a lot of time helping singers understand is how their voice actually works. Most singers think the voice works like a guitar string. Something vibrates, and sound comes out. It's actually much closer to a wind instrument. Your vocal folds are blown open and closed by air pressure hundreds of times every second. They create a raw, buzzy sound. So where does that warm, clear, recognizable singing voice come from? A lot of it comes from resonance. Your throat, mouth, and nasal passages shape and amplify that original sound. That's what helps create your tone and timbre. This is why resonance work matters so much. You can have healthy, well-coordinated vocal folds and still sound small or thin if you're not using your resonating spaces well. Your instrument is much bigger than your vocal folds. Have you ever noticed a difference in your sound just by changing where you feel the resonance? 🎤 Singers 12+: Join free at https://www.skool.com/voice or upgrade to premium for $9/month (limited time) and get access to streaming selected private voice lessons with BSOV faculty. 👨‍👩‍👧 Parents of singers 4 to 11: Join KidSing Academy free at https://www.skool.com/kidsing-academy-8692 or upgrade to premium for $9/month (limited time).

The Work Nobody Applauds Is Where Growth Happens
I'm Corinne Bach, founder of Bach School of Voice in Tampa, Florida. I teach singers ages 12 and up, and one thing I see again and again is that the biggest growth often happens when nobody is watching. Most singers are waiting for the big moment. The callback. The standing ovation. The perfect high note. But the singers who grow fastest pay attention to the small wins during an ordinary practice session. Your breath support felt cleaner. Your jaw stayed relaxed. Your registers connected better than they did last month. You made a mistake and recovered instead of falling apart. You practiced even when you didn't feel like it. Those things are not small. They're the actual work. Singers are trained to notice what's wrong. We can become so focused on the crack or flat note that we miss the evidence that we're improving. Performance wins come from process wins. So when something clicks, even a little, acknowledge it. Write it down. Tell someone. What's one small win you've had recently that you almost brushed off? 🎤 Singers 12+: Join free at https://www.skool.com/voice or upgrade to premium for $9/month (limited time) and get access to streaming selected private voice lessons with BSOV faculty. 👨‍👩‍👧 Parents of singers 4 to 11: Join KidSing Academy free at https://www.skool.com/kidsing-academy-8692 or upgrade to premium for $9/month (limited time).

What No One Tells You About Making a Living as a Singer
I'm Corinne Bach. I run Bach School of Voice in Tampa, Florida, where I teach singers ages 12 and up in classical voice and musical theater, both online and in person. One conversation keeps coming up with my students. They love singing. They want to build a career. But almost no one talks honestly about the money side. Most working singers I know don't rely on one paycheck. They teach. They perform. They sing at events. They do session work. Some branch into other areas over time. It usually isn't one big break. It's a combination of skills and opportunities that grows over the years. I'm curious about your experience. If you're trying to earn money through singing, or even thinking about it, what's one thing you wish someone had told you earlier? Maybe it's about pricing yourself. Maybe it's about a job you never expected to enjoy. Or maybe it's about letting go of the idea that there is only one "right" way to build a career. I'd love to hear your perspective. Your Voice Usually Needs Water. Sometimes It Needs a Little More.
I'm Corinne Bach, founder of Bach School of Voice in Tampa, Florida. I work with singers ages 12 and up, helping them build healthy, reliable voices through private lessons and community support. Nothing beats warm water. That's always my first recommendation. But sometimes your voice needs a little extra help. Here are a few products I regularly recommend to my singers: • Grether's Pastilles. My favorite. They're made with glycerin and real fruit juice, so they're both hydrating and easy to use. • Singer's Soothing Throat Spray. I'll be honest. I don't love the taste. But when I really need it, it works. It uses glycerin and botanical extracts to help soothe the voice. • Throat Coat. The tea or the lozenges are both good options when your voice needs a little extra care. • Halls Fruit Breezers. Most cough drops contain menthol, which singers should avoid. These do not, and they taste pretty good too. • Vocal nebulizers. Think of them as a humidifier for your vocal folds. Living in Florida, I don't think most singers need one year round, but they can be helpful during dry seasons or if your voice tends to dry out easily.

Your Head Might Already Know How to Sing the Note
Hi, I'm Corinne Bach. I run Bach School of Voice in Tampa, Florida, where I teach classical voice and musical theater singers ages 12 and up, both online and in person. One thing I see all the time is singers doing something that looks strange until you understand why. Many good singers naturally let their head tip just slightly downward as they sing higher notes. Then it releases slightly upward as they come back down. It is only a few degrees. Nothing exaggerated. Why? Your voice is a whole system. Your larynx, tongue, jaw, palate, neck, and vocal tract all work together. A small downward nod often lets the vocal tract organize itself more efficiently for higher pitches. Coming back down, a slight release upward helps the voice settle into lower notes. I tell students this all the time. High notes like a slightly shorter instrument. Low notes like a slightly longer one. The important part is this. Don't move your head to force the note. Good coordination creates the movement. The movement does not create good coordination. Next time you practice, pay attention. Your body may already know what to do.
