Daily Fragrance Hacks and Tips: Lasting Longer 09/30/2026
6. Make your fragrance last longer: There are a few simple things I do when I want to get more longevity out of a fragrance without just adding more sprays Start with hydrated skin. Fragrance usually holds better on moisturized skin than it does on dry skin, so an unscented lotion before spraying can make a noticeable difference. I especially like this with fragrances that tend to disappear quickly. I also like using more than one type of spray location. A couple of sprays on skin give you the natural development of the fragrance, while a light spray on clothing can hold the scent much longer. Just be careful with darker or oil-heavy fragrances because they can stain fabric. Another trick is to spray after a shower, once your skin is completely dry but still well hydrated. And as we already talked about, don’t rub your wrists together; just let the fragrance dry naturally. If something still doesn’t last as long as I want, I’d rather carry a small decant and refresh later than put on a huge number of sprays first thing in the morning. An unscented lotion is probably the easiest option. Apply a light layer, let it absorb, and then spray your fragrance over it. You’re adding moisture without introducing another scent that competes with the perfume. Another option is a small amount of fractionated coconut oil. It’s lighter than regular coconut oil and usually has very little scent. I’d use just a thin layer on the areas where I plan to spray; the idea isn’t to make your skin oily, but to give the fragrance a slightly more emollient surface to sit on. You can also use a tiny amount of Vaseline or plain petroleum jelly on a pulse point before spraying. Because it’s more occlusive, it can slow down how quickly the fragrance evaporates from that particular spot. The key word is tiny; you don’t need to coat your skin. For me, these are all tools, not requirements. I’d start with unscented lotion, then experiment with fractionated coconut oil or Vaseline if I have a fragrance that doesn’t want to stick around.

This was very helpful, because I usually put it on right after I shower
