@Josh Headrick Thank You for the feedback. I’m in a fortunate situation as I am going in 50/50 with a partner who has been a longtime friend from our service together in the Coast Guard the past 22 years. We are both retired from the Coast Guard and have our retirement benefits to include health insurance. We have been working on this over the past two months and wanted to get all our administrative affairs inline before moving forward. We have our LLC, EIN, DOR tax information, commercial insurance and business bank account set up. We also have our business model, and business agreement since it is a 50/50 owned LLC partnership as we want to ensure that our business agreement doesn’t have any potential to ruin our friendship. I have heard many horror stories about those kinds of things. The one issue we will be running into is how to properly quote and charge for paying two operators equally since we will both have an even share on workload regarding soliciting for jobs, quoting/bidding, operating equipment, etc. Our plan in phase 1 of our business model is to not pay ourselves, and all money earned goes into paying our rental fees, consumables, accounting and bookkeeping apps) while the margins go straight into our business bank account to help eventually purchase equipment and then start paying ourselves.

@Christopher Fortier, great question. My business partner and I worked together and had multiple drafts to finally agree upon a proper business model for our first three years and have it in three phases. We are both retired from the Coast Guard, and receive a retirement as well as health benefits. With having that our plan is to pay the rental fees, consumables, over head (jobber app, quo phone app, commercial insurance, bookkeeping fees). From there the margins and operator fees earned from each job will go into our business bank account and we do not want to pay ourselves for the first year. We have budgeted to be able to live off our Coast Guard retirement for the first year while we build our bank account up to eventually purchase equipment as we move into phase 2 of our business model. This also helps us to identify what machinery we are renting the most for our jobs so that we can prioritize purchasing that machine first, be it a skid loader, mini excavator, or foresty mulcher package/skid loader.

Greetings All, Darrell Strickland from West Bend, Wisconsin Just getting started on a 50/50 Partnership for a Veteran owned land clearing service in South East WI offering brush removal, forestry mulching, and property access expansion for surrounding counties of West Bend, WI. Currently own dump trailer, hydra bucket, and grapple but renting equipment on weekly basis as needed depending on the job. Currently in Phase I of our business model renting to find which machines we use most to purchase as needed on priority once booking solid months out No revenue yet as we are finishing our business contract agreement, and Google Business Suite Platform before advertising, and soliciting for jobs (knocking on doors, flyers, etc.) 12‑month target goal is $300,00 (based off three full day jobs per week starting off) Biggest bottleneck right now is leads and closing. Both recent retired veterans that are now calling SE Wisconsin home, and starting this business from the ground up so we plan to advertise, knock on doors and speak with land owners, hand out flyers, etc.. Learning the business side (margins, taxes, bookkeeping) is our second bottleneck.
