I’ve done that for a year before with my guitar. I pick it up thinking this time I’ll get it to sound good. But it never does. I think I’m too heavy handed on guitar and when I thunk the bass I’m too lite.

Good morning, I’m Darren but several people call me Brutha D. 25-30 years ago I started self learning guitar. I’m still terrible as I self taught myself wrong. Fast forward to a year ago our church group was meeting up with another church group and ours was to do the music. The lead was trying to set up practice time and my son the bass player said he couldn’t be at the meet up. He was asked well who is playing bass. He said Dad. I was shocked. I kinda thought he was joking. But he wasn’t. I had my first lesson three days before the meet up. I mainly just thunk, thunk, thunk nowadays. I like Billy Sheehan, Mohini Dey and on YouTube there a young lady that has so much fun playing bass, EllenPlaysBass.
