First full day Notifications off & Inbox 0
So, today is the first full day with notifications off - let's share here how it feels. Were you able to sustain focus on one thing until the task was done? How often did you feel yourself abandoning what you were doing to peek in e-mail or chat - or phone? @Aiste Juknaite @Erica Jones @Kaspars Omuls @Elīna Balamovska A reminder for your Inbox today: Clear it to Zero at the end of the day - Take each unprocessed e-mail in your inbox - Ask: What needs to be done here? (if it is just FYI, skip to the last step) - Write that in your main to-do list - Move the e-mail to the "OLD e-mails" folder Hopefully there is nothing left in the "Temporary Inbox" anymore, and you have deleted that folder. If anything is confusing, let me know.

@Kaspars Omuls start of the day is the key period, so the fact that you were able to focus well there, is great. The day does tend to sway our plans, it is also not productive to be rigid, and that is not my aim here with you. For the to-do list - welcome to the club of overflowing to-do lists :D This is actually not something that will change - ever. We will, however, talk about prioritisation, conflicting priorities, and how to organise the to-do list so that it holds everything, but highlights the most important stuff. All of that in the sessions over the coming weeks.

@Elīna Balamovska, how was your Monday and Tuesday? Also, did you mute the habitual "quick question" callers, and how did they react? Remember, you can always call them back once you have finished what you were doing. Treat it as chat inbox. We will also touch on this on Friday when we will talk about the Deep Work blocks - alternatively, you can mute them only during those precious hours.
Cohort, week 1: Distractions
Five of us met on Friday for week 1 of the Productivity for Managers cohort. The topic was distractions. Before we got to email, I asked how many unread emails everyone had. The answers ran from 0 to about 8,000, plus one personal inbox past 11,000. Then I asked everyone to imagine a workday where nothing pops up, on the computer or on the phone. The first answers were "I'd feel like I'm missing something" and "I'd be suspicious. What's going on in the background?" By the time we hung up, most of the inboxes in the room were empty. One person also realised partway through that they don't have a to-do list of their own, only their team's lists. That one waits for week 4. Everyone is now living with what we set up until Tuesday evening. Cohort members: the recording and a refresher are in the CLASSROOM. Next Friday is time blocking 💪🏻

Cohort, week 1: Distractions
Cohort Participants: Start Here
Welcome! You're one of six people in this cohort, which is on purpose. The group is small enough that we all get to know each other. This post covers everything you need to find your way around. ➡️ The Six Fridays All at 12pm UTC, 60 to 90 minutes each [Check your local time zone]. You can see them in Calendar. The Zoom links will be in there too, in case you cannot find the event in your own calendar. Friday 2 October, Distractions Friday 9 October, Time blocking Friday 16 October, Prioritization Friday 23 October, One list Friday 30 October, Rituals Friday 6 November, Graduation The calendar invitations should also be in your inbox. If you can't find something, message me directly and I'll resend them. ➡️ How the six weeks will work We will build the system on during the calls. There should be nothing left to do as homework - just use your newbuilt system and habits. That's the whole design. This is what you will get after each call: - A recording, in case you can't make it live - An implementation worksheet for that week - Both will be found in the Classroom ➡️ What I'd actually do this week Introduce yourself to the community. Very briefly - what you manage and what's currently taking up most of your time. That's it, no need to polish. See you on Friday! Dārta ☀️
