Pinging out a room for mixing
Good morning everyone, I've been using headphones for the past 5 months out of laziness haha. Just got setup to ping my studio room, I have some isolation blankets and foam bass traps installed in the typical areas of concern, after running a Pink noise generator, I'm finding a good sized hump at 125hz to 250hz. I also notice this is the frequency range I most notably fight to get right with mixing between headphones and monitors. Here is my question. Does a person continue on and know to cut those frequencies down a bit going forward knowing full well that band is boosted in the environment? or try and eliminate those nodes and deaden the room more? Really just seeing what you all would do in this case. Let me know and thank you in advance!

REW Beta Release - REW API beta releases | AV NIRVANA Go there and download the appropriate version of REW for your operating system. Then, If you don't already have one, invest in one of these: Behringer ECM8000 Measurement Condenser Microphone | Sweetwater You'll also need a microphone stand for the mic. If you're serious about getting answers to your questions about your room, I've shown you what you need.

@Lucas Smillie An RTA mic is fine, but you need it to record sine sweeps at a proper level, if it can’t do that properly, you’ll need the ECM 8000.

Basic question for you: What headphones do you have?
Ollo X2 ?
Hi all. I was about to order a Ollo X1 for my birthday and found that Ollo is going to release a new model X2 in a few weeks. Did you hear about that and maybe someone has had the chance to test it already?

@G A There was a sale on X1 "while supplies last" but I haven't checked to see if they've run out yet.
Acoustic Room Treatments
I recently upgraded from headphones to monitors, I’ve ran REW and have ARC running but still need to address a few reflections points and corners that collect the lower frequencies. I’m interested in learning from your experience and advice when it comes to buying panels and traps vs. diy projects. It’s my understanding that GIK has the best prices for readymade (please correct me if I’m wrong) which is what I’m leaning towards being that I would rather spend time in the studio than in the workshop (plus my shop skills suck). But I’m interested in your experience either way - what was your biggest take away or lesson learned? What would you do differently?

@Matthew Montgomery Putting some effort into treating your acoustic space is the best thing you can do for yourself. I'm glad to see you going for it. The payoff is worth it.

@Matthew Montgomery Perfection is a myth, unfortunately. Nobody has a perfect room because it is unattainable. But, reliable and trustworthy rooms are attainable. The reality is that any amount of improvement is just that - improvement. If nothing else, at least put a 2x4ft panel up at each of your first reflection points and treat the front corners with bass traps. Wall panel thickness should be either 4in or 6in, whatever you can manage. Bass traps should be at least 6in, or a corner wedge covering the entire height of the walls, from floor to ceiling. Look at GIK for ideas.

@Andy Laird The version you pay for is only for multitracking. It will allow more than one mic input at a time.

@Rafael Tobola Did you measure with REW using the Sonarworks mic, or did you measure with SoundID using the Sonarworks mic?
