I have reviewed a number of projects where the project manager or the business stakeholders tell me that they’re managing risk. I get shown a wrist register and it shows regular updates… However, risk management is a lot more than just having a meeting and going through the open risks and providing updates. Risk management fundamentally is about working with your project team and stakeholders to make sure that something you don’t want to happen, is avoided. And to do that effectively when working on projects, you have to allocate time and resources to risk mitigations.
