Day 4 of class in the books…
Finished day 4 of Dean’s two-week class today. I came home and really tried to hone in on the small details Dean has been preaching. The two things I’m focusing on most right now are: 1. Not every push needs to move metal. It’s tempting to want to make a push and immediately see a reaction, but I’m learning that those smaller, more controlled pushes add up to bigger, and more importantly, more precise changes. 2. Slowing down my rhythm and being intentional. Whether I’m pushing or knocking down, I want to make sure I’m hitting exactly where I intend to. It’s easy to get moving too fast and make a push just because it feels like I should be doing something. I’m working on slowing down and making every move with a purpose. The first 80% isn’t necessarily the hard part, but it sets the foundation for the last 20%, and I’m finding that’s where the small details really add up to create the final product. Looking forward to the rest of the class and continuing to hone in on my skills! Attached are a few photos of some of the damage I’ve been practicing on. Nothing perfect by any means but it’s important to show the progress!

Hail Hail Hail
Car lot work !! Doing the best I can any tips greatly appreciated. So where to start car lot I don’t see the 400 dents lol. So we are replacing the hood and Deck lid anything you can do for the roof would be appreciated. So what better way to get experience than getting your A!! Kicked lol. First time doing Hail having a hard time with the braces obviously could use a nice set of whale tails don’t have hail roads so just doing the best I can with what I got. Didn’t set my light up for one pic little imperfections gonna do some more cleaning up,glue, push try some hand tools what you guys and gals think ? Thanks.

Abraham, THIS is how you learn! 😂 Get your A!! kicked a little bit, pay attention to what the metal is teaching you, make adjustments, and keep moving. First thing I would tell you: don’t look at that roof as 400 dents. That’s overwhelming. Break that roof into sections and work the process. Get your light set up correctly and start somewhere you have good access. Get some wins. Don’t worry about making every dent perfect on the first pass. Start moving the damage, work systematically through your sections, and progressively refine it as you go. And don’t let the braces convince you that you simply need more tools. Yes, a good set of whale tails and hail rods will absolutely expand your options—but this is also where you’re learning access, leverage, glue, hand tools, and problem solving. The tool helps the technician. It doesn’t replace the technician. Most importantly, don’t rush. This is your FIRST hail car. You’re not supposed to already be good at hail. 😂 You’re supposed to be learning. You’ve got hundreds of repetitions sitting right in front of you. Use them. Section it. Read it. Move it. Refine it. Cross-check it. Then move to the next section. Keep working, brother. This is exactly what this community is here for. 👊
🚨GLUE PULL - LESSON 1 - PANEL PREP | LIVE!
If you’ve ever struggled with glue sticking consistently or getting those big, confident pulls, don’t immediately blame the glue or the tab. Paint gets contaminated. And that contamination can stand directly between the relationship of glue and paint. In this lesson, I walk through the sequence I use to properly prepare the panel and how I escalate that prep when the surface needs more than a basic cleaning. Go through the lesson, put the sequence to work, and report back in the comments. Have you struggled with adhesion or weak pulls? And after trying these steps, did you notice a difference? I want to hear what you’re seeing in the shop. Now WORK HARD and GO BE GREAT. ⚔️

@Steven Arzapalo You’re already thinking ahead, Steve! And yes, we’re absolutely going to get into this. One thing I’ll tell you now: smaller tabs tend to expose weaknesses in the entire system much faster than larger tabs. If we know the panel is properly prepped, our temperature is right, and we have the appropriate glue/tab combination, then technique becomes a HUGE part of the equation—glue amount, timing, how the tab is seated, pull direction, and how we introduce load into that bond. A larger tab can sometimes let us get away with things a small tab simply won’t. We’re going to break all of that down as we move forward. Great observation!
