Invest in yourself and your clients will invest in you
I'm a big believer in investing in yourself. And I’m a big believer in investing in your coaching business… Both in developing your skills as a coach… And in developing the skills to get clients. Because ultimately, those two things allow you to do one thing: Help more people. Here’s the thing… Hopefully, you’re going to be a coach for the rest of your life. So when you're investing in yourself, your investment only needs to give you one new skill. One skill that makes you a better coach. One skill that helps you create a bigger breakthrough for a client. Or one skill that helps you attract more people who need your help. Because when you implement that skill… And you use it for the rest of your coaching career… The return on that investment can be enormous. As long as you've got the cash available, I think investing in yourself is one of the highest-leverage things you can do. It's always baffled me when coaches are stuck… They know they need to improve something… But they're not willing to invest because their time horizon is too short. They're thinking… “Is this going to pay off in the next 30 days, 60 days or 90 days?” When perhaps the better question is… “What could this skill be worth to me over the next 3 years, 10 years or 15 years?” If you learn something that makes you a better coach… How many more people could you help? If you learn how to consistently get clients… How many more people could you reach? And if you combine the two… Becoming brilliant at coaching AND brilliant at getting your coaching in front of people who need it… What could that be worth over the course of your career? That's why I believe decisions about investing in yourself should be looked at over a much longer time horizon than most people use. And there's another side to this… If you want clients to invest in themselves by working with you, you have to understand the value of investing in yourself too. When we work with our most successful clients, there’s always a common theme.
