📍 Um oficial da Marinha portuguesa que foi ao Japão, se apaixonou pelo país, e nunca mais voltou para casa. Escritor, diplomata, e um dos maiores excêntricos da história portuguesa. 🎂 30 de maio de 1854, em Lisboa. Estudou na Escola Naval, serviu em Moçambique e Macau - e em 1889 visitou o Japão pela primeira vez. Morreu a 1 de julho de 1929, em Tokushima, no Japão, com 75 anos, budista e completamente japonês de espírito. 💡 Quando as ordens chegaram para regressar a Portugal em 1898, Wenceslau de Moraes tomou uma decisão. Não voltava. Tornou-se cônsul de Portugal em Kobe, casou com uma geisha chamada O-Yoné, adotou o vestuário japonês, converteu-se ao budismo e passou os últimos trinta anos da vida numa casa modesta em Tokushima, escrevendo sobre o Japão em português para jornais portugueses que nunca mais visitaria. Quando O-Yoné morreu subitamente em 1912, com apenas 38 anos, ficou devastado - e ficou no Japão mesmo assim. Portugal esqueceu-o. O Japão não. Seven people were convicted to prison (7Y9M to 16 years) for a total of 36 robberies. 30 yrs ago, this wonderful woman said yes when asked if she would take me as her”lawful wedded husband” not sure where the lawful parts come in. What a wonderful day. We were married on the pulpit of a good friend’s yacht, officiated by our clubs Fleet Chaplain, a retired Anglican Minister ( who had lots of Druidic symbols on his sash) surrounded by lots of friends and family, we had a great afternoon. We left for our “2nd Honeymoon” on a friends boat, with a fridge stocked with champagne and not much else. Without this woman we would not have made it around Cape Horn 10 yrs later. Stuck in a weather system of the coast of Equador, going backwards, for 2 days, she convinced me to keep going. We enjoyed some of the best years of our sailing life after that momentous moment. And here we are in Portugal on another adventure, we’re celebrating 30 yrs with a 2 week trip to Greece, including of course a weeks sailing. What a journey it’s been so far💕💕💕💕💕
