Welcome to Clief Notes. Here’s where to start. 👋 You don’t need to watch the entire classroom before trying something. Pick a starting point, make something small, and bring your questions back here. 🧭 Find your way around Navigating the Course shows you what’s here and how to get around. If you’re new to working with AI, start with The Foundation. We work through prompting, context, and organizing your files so you can give an AI a job you can actually check. 🛠️ Never ran a coding agent or folder strcutre? Jump into Module 4 This is a good starting point if you want to work through a practical example. The short videos mix animation with actual app screenshots, and there’s a fictional practice folder you can follow along with. - 4.1: Install and First Use — Get oriented and try your first task. Grab the Foundation Practice download from Resources here. - 4.2: Working With Files — Turn meeting notes into a decision list, then check where each decision came from. - 4.3: Think, Then Build — Compare your options, choose an approach, and approve a short brief before asking for the finished work. - 4.4: Project Instructions — Leave useful instructions with your project so you have less to explain next time. - You’ll find guidance for Claude Code and Codex, plus a regular chat route where you save the files yourself. 💬 Use the check-ins At the bottom of the lessons, you’ll find polls and discussion posts. Share what you tried, what worked, and what needed correcting.

01 - How I started
So, starting completely from scratch... The first thing I did was actually not build anything. 😄 I looked around. I started with the Classroom, specifically Getting Started and the first lessons of The Foundation. If you are completely new here, go and do that. It’s time well spent. Then if you want come back here. When I approached Module 4 in The Foundation I had a few questions. Mind you, at the time it was not as nicely organised as it is now. It has improved enormously. Thank you @Jake Van Clief Anyway, the questions appearing in my head went something like this: How do I pick the right folders? Where do these .md files come from? Do I write them? How would I know they have everything inside them that my project needs? What even is my project? Can I have multiple CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.mdfiles? Where is my real folder root? Do I have multiple projects in the same folder? Can I add more stuff later?... Sound familiar? 😄 In the end, it all boiled down to one question: How are people actually doing this? 🔎 So I stopped the Classroom for a while and the search bar became my best friend. The more I searched and the more I looked around, I slowly but surely figured something out: There seems to be more than one way of building an ICM. Some members loaded Jake’s & David's ICM material/research paper into their LLM of choice and built from there. Other members started with the icm-architect skill. Others did a combination of both. And yet another group used the icm-architect together with something called the Workspace Blueprint. The bottom line for me was: ❗Many roads lead to Rome. Pick one. ❗ While combing through the group with my best pal, the search bar, I also came across some really interesting videos and posts which helped clear things up for me. Some were easy to find. Others were hidden away somewhere in the dusty abyss of the Skool community posts. 😄 In hindsight, I think searching around for a while was actually very useful. It helped me connect the dots and, more importantly, stopped me from immediately jumping into building something without really knowing what I wanted.

Working on Customer ICM Folders in their environment
Hello everyone, I am starting to work with my first consulting customers, where I am bringing icm into their operations and helping them make their operations readable and actionable for humans and machines. I see that I will want to be able to have access to their folders with my agents to help them shape them instead of getting on their computers. Right now the clients are just small companies. I am wondering how others are doing this. I know some will say eduba. I am wondering if anyone is having the customers create github repos and then give me access to it so we can work together on them. Or what are other options that you have that work well?

@Joshua Baker ohhhh, gotcha, yeah mis-read that lol I mean that is what Eduba pretty much does, but I re-read what you said and you're looking for a different way? I mean, Eduba would be my go-to, right now I just use it to sanitize my own ICMs for public use or walk test new ones...other than that, I got nothin' for ya, I was thinking of the onboarding process. Git seems feasible, and/or old fashion zip it up and send it to me but that's what Eduba replaced.

Extremely confused
I really want to love this course, but every time I sit down to work through lessons, I don't know what to do. The instructions don't seem clear to me and the more I watch the more confused I get.

@Damon Hess Roomba style! I wouldn't have it any other way. So I did something similar, I was trying to shape ICM on what I already had. Instead, you need to start with a fresh ICM and tool it that way. I built the brain interview with that in mind, it ask you questions and then proposes a tree and scaffolds your ICM, and I also built the perfect ICM builder that ask you only 22 questions and no matter how you answer them, you get a perfect ICM'ed structure and then you can have your ai finish it with interviewing. I know they restructured the courses, I haven't been through them since first week of July and then I just start doing what you were doing for 3 weeks until it clicked. I was doing the roomba dance too. I answered Carla's tag earlier with the site where she got her ICM folder system from me and she didn't share worried it was my ip. filesnfolders.com (in the footer is ICM folder systems too for picking a choosing where you need a system). Recommend the brain interview and see if that works if not the perfect ICM builder which is a whizbang that forces you in a box with a well structured ICM to start.

@Damon Hess yeah man, as you can see a lot of people tagging me and backing up the tags... I am not that far ahead of and I know right where you're at. Hopefully something I have you can mess with will have it click!
