Why your client's nails are peeling (and it's not always your fault)
I had a client come to me convinced her nails were "ruined" from gel... let's unpack that one 👇 Peeling and thinning nails get blamed on gel a LOT. Sometimes fair. Sometimes not. Here's what's normally going on structurally: The nail plate is made of layers of keratin, stacked like sheets of paper. When those layers separate, that's peeling - and it can come from: → Over-filing or over-buffing the natural nail plate itself → Aggressive soak-off or picking product off (this is the big one, and it's on the client, not you) → Dehydration (nails need moisture just like skin does) → Genuinely just... genetics and age. Some nails are naturally thinner. Not your fault, not the product's fault The fix is proper application (thin, even layers, no over-filing), proper removal (soak off, never pick), and cuticle oil doing its job daily - not just at appointments. Educating your client on THIS is what builds trust. She stops blaming the product and starts trusting your process 💛

This is a good topic to talk about because it's not always the product or nail tech. Its tricky to navigate but also good to be educated so you can c9 fide try educate your clients and build that trust

@Summer Lilley this is important. Im gonna be honest and say I did not know what actually goes into doing nails. Even when I said I was in school people laugh as if it's the easiest thing and ask why school is required. Almost anyone can paint nails and do enhancements but you really do need the education to do a quality job and protect clients nails.
Online booking
Anyone use a service to book your clients online? I’ve always used the old school way with a calendar and a pencil. I constantly had clients calling daily, all hours. I joined an online booking service and I really like it. Clients can go to my website and book. It sends them a confirmation and reminder. This is my first month doing this. So far it’s been really helpful. I probably should’ve done this a long time ago. Anyone else making this change?

I can't wait to get to this level. Im slowly moving my schedule around to do nails part time until I have enough clients to need a booking service. Its good to plan ahead and not have to do the guess work so thank you

@Tiffany Hart thank you! I have the passion. My kids are grown and soon it'll just be me so I really want it to work. I appreciate the encouragement. I will get there!
Should we start a monthly nail art challenge?
I'm thinking of giving us something fun to do as a community, and the first obvious thing that popped into mind was a monthly nail art challenge. I understand we're all busy with a million things going on, so weekly probably wouldn't be best. But what if once a month I upload a non-nail-related picture, and we all spend the month interpreting it how we want? It can be on a press-on, a swatch stick, or a real-life client. Totally up to you! I just think it's a nice way to also get our creative juices flowing, and we can share everyone's nails on our Instagram to also try and up your engagement as well. So... should we start a monthly nail art challenge?

Retention
I haven't been practicing as much as I should but how do you fix retention. I do all the steps. Is it something you just gain overtime or should be from the start? I do pretty good on myself but I'm ha ing issues with my daughter's nails. This also causes me to not want to take other clients cause I don't want to charge full price for something I can't guarantee. Also how do you know it's you or the client?( hope it is okay to ask here)
