For the play kitchen, I could ask questions like: - “What are you cooking today?” - “What ingredients do you need?” - “Who are you making the food for?” - “What should we put in the oven?” - “How much food should we make?” - “What is your restaurant called?” - “What happens after the food is ready?” These questions can help children use their imagination, practice language, and learn new vocabulary while keeping the conversation going.

I chose the Dramatic Play area to focus on extending conversations. I joined the children while they were playing and followed their lead. I made comments about what they were doing, repeated and rephrased some of their words, and asked follow-up questions to keep the conversation going. I also added new vocabulary like ingredients, customer, order, and menu. The children were excited to share their ideas and tell me about what they were doing. It was fun and I could see how adding a few extra words or questions helped keep the conversation going. I plan to practice this in other areas too!

The first area of the classroom that I feel could benefit from a reduction in materials is the play kitchen. While each kitchen toy definitely serves a purpose, I have noticed that at the end of free-play time, the play food and appliances are usually just jumbled around and shoved in different parts of the kitchen. While there is nothing wrong with this way to play, it could be beneficial to reduce the number of play food items. I think this could help to minimize cleanup chaos and deepen imaginative play. I've noticed that when children are overwhelmed by too many choices, they tend to dump and shovel items rather than engage in focused scenarios. Downsizing the inventory will make cleanup manageable and help them find what they need! This could be done in a number of ways: - Implementing a toy rotation - Store half the food items away while the other half is in the kitchen - Swap themes monthly (bakery items this month, fruits & veggies next month, taco truck the next, etc.) - Limit by container capacity - Remove any loose pieces that do not fit into designated food baskets - Stop adding items once a container is full

One moment that comes to mind is the transition from outside to inside after recess. Children are instructed to always wash their hands after coming inside, so a line naturally forms outside the bathroom while students wait to use the sinks. I think this is the perfect opportunity to sing a handwashing song! It will remind the children about proper handwashing steps while also mitigating the line-order arguing and unoccupied wait time.

One idea for the classroom I help in is to make the art materials more accessible. They currently are on a shelf that faces into a corner and I think that either moving the supplies or the shelf itself could encourage more self-driven art projects or coloring. I think sometimes the "out of sight, out of mind" happens with the current set up, so children are less likely to choose a glue and scissors project if they aren't able to readily view the supplies.
