Hello everyone! I’m Erin and I own a 12-year-old Quarter Horse named Cowboy. I joined this community for advice and inspiration about how to build the best relationship possible with my horse. Cowboy’s previous owner did nothing with him and kept him in a pasture for 5 years. I bought him and I’m retraining him (or trying to) to ride, but I’m having mixed results so far. He is a sweet boy, but he does not want to work and isn’t fond of riding. It doesn’t help that he is overweight due to inactivity for so long. I know I have to get better as a rider for him as well. I’ve only lightly ridden my elderly TB the last few years, so I’m definitely out of practice. Ultimately, I want Cowboy to be happy and enjoy the time we spend together. I know it will take time, and I’m not in any rush, but I’m hoping I’ll get some ideas here to try to build a strong bond between us.
