What Teresa Stratas taught me about dramatic singing
Teresa Stratas’ Salome had a profound influence on me. When I auditioned for my first contract at a German opera house, I chose Salome’s final scene — and that audition led to my first role: Freia in Wagner’s Das Rheingold. What fascinated me about Stratas was never simply the drama. Listen to how intensely she sings — and yet the voice itself never becomes unnecessarily heavy. The technique remains relatively slim, flexible and free. She doesn’t try to manufacture a “dramatic voice” by pushing more weight into the sound. And that is something I see singers struggle with again and again: The more dramatic the music becomes, the more they feel they have to DO with the voice. More volume. More pressure. More weight. Very often, the opposite is needed. The emotional intensity can be enormous while the vocal mechanism remains free. That is one of the things I work on very closely with singers in my PRIVATE SESSIONS: how to create dramatic expression without sacrificing vocal freedom. If this is something you struggle with in your own repertoire and you’d like to work with me personally, you can apply for 1:1 work with me here: 👉 https://singing.eva-lindqvist.com/coaching Or, if you’d like regular personal guidance, VIP includes one 45-minute 1:1 session with me every month. What Teresa Stratas taught me about dramatic singingWhat Teresa Stratas taught me about dramatic singing

What I hear in 30 Seconds of a Singer´s Recording👂
When a singer sends me a recording, I usually hear a lot within the first 30 seconds. Not whether the voice is “beautiful”. I listen for things like: • Is the breath actually supporting the phrase - or fighting it? • Are the jaw and tongue free? • Does the voice stay balanced as the pitch rises? • Where does unnecessary pressure begin? • And most importantly: what is the ONE thing that would make the biggest difference right now? Very often, singers are working on five different problems when one underlying technical issue is actually causing most of them. That’s why an experienced outside ear can sometimes save you months of trial and error. Curious what I would notice first in YOUR voice? If you’d like me to listen to your recording and tell you what I hear, what may be holding your voice back, and what I would work on first, you can book my Online Voice Analysis here: https://shop.eva-lindqvist.com/products/online-stimmanalyse No live appointment is needed. You simply send me your recording, and I analyse your voice in detail.

@Erminio Zarcone Hi Erminio, I completely understand that everyone has a different budget and different priorities. A Voice Analysis is much more than simply telling someone whether they have a "good voice." I spend considerable time listening, analyzing the technical coordination of the voice, identifying strengths and weaknesses, explaining the underlying causes, and giving detailed, individual recommendations and exercises. For many singers, that clarity saves months or even years of trial and error. Whether that's worthwhile is, of course, a personal decision, and I completely respect that. I simply wish every singer finds the guidance that helps them reach their goals. 🎶
We have ONE Bubble Hero! 🫧
Apparently, my LAX VOX Challenge was more frightening than I thought. 😄 But one brave singer stepped forward: Avril Carpentier, who posted her 15-second bubbling video and showed us how it’s done! So I’ve decided that 2 free lectures are simply not enough for our first and only Bubble Hero. Avril, as a little thank-you for being brave enough to go first, I’m giving you the entire LAX VOX Lecture Series for free. Thank you for joining in, sharing your practice and bringing some bubbles into our Community! 🫧
