Sunday watch: what's the point if no one sees it? 🎥
Happy Sunday lovely members ☕ I want to share a video with you today because I think what it says is so important, and I have a feeling it will land for a lot of us here. Has anyone ever asked you, "What's the point of making that if you're not selling it?" Or maybe nobody has said it out loud, but a quiet voice in your own head asks it when you sit back from a page. Or you feel guilty about spending time on your sketchbook? This video is for that voice. ▶️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗡𝗼 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝘀 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scGt-BJ97LA 📏 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸 She talks about something she calls "the value stick": the habit of holding everything we make up against a measuring stick. Does it make money? Is it useful to someone else? If not, it doesn't count. None of us picked that stick up on purpose. Most of us grew up in a world that measures worth by what we produce, so making something just for ourselves can come with a little pinch of guilt, even while we're enjoying it. 🧶 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗲 Knitting isn't valuable because it turns into a sweater. The sweater is the bonus. The value was already happening in the hours of making, stitch by stitch. It's the same with a sketchbook page. The page isn't where the value lives. It's evidence that something good already happened in you while you made it. 📓 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 This is my favorite part. Nobody thinks a friend who writes in a diary for half an hour a day is wasting their time, even though no one else ever reads it. We just understand that a diary helps you think. Sketchbook journaling does exactly the same job, only with color, lines and paper scraps instead of sentences. It's a private place to think in images, and over time it becomes a little time capsule of what you're drawn to. The one difference is that we never judge a diary entry as a finished piece of writing. So what if your sketchbook page didn't have to be a finished piece either? Just a rough draft of your day, your colors, your thoughts.

I have no one that questions me about such things. There are some advantages to being old and retired. My time is mine to use.

The challenge is done, but it isn't the last page 💛 So from today the group settles into its everyday rhythm, and it has a name. 🔥 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗬 𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗘 One post here every morning with a small idea in it, and you share in that same thread whenever you get to it. No streak, nobody counting, and you never have to use the prompt. It's just somewhere for the habit to live. 👉 𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆'𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘁: 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴. 🔥 The kettle, 🔥 your glasses, 🔥 your phone, 🔥 the tap, 🔥 the dog's lead. Whatever your hand landed on first, before you'd really woken up. Five minutes is plenty. Start where you are, a notebook and a biro is absolutely fine. ✨ 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁? Draw it a second time without looking at your page at all. Eyes on the object the whole way. It'll come out wonky and that's the good bit. 👉 Also in the classroom here: ❤️ 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 👇 The whole page, a tiny piece of it, or just type "done" if you're not ready to show it ❤️ ❤️ All count. Whenever you get to it, morning, teatime or midnight. A small favour to ask 🙏
Sketchbook Magic finished on Monday and I have loved every minute of it 💛 Before I start planning what comes next, I would really like to know what the week was actually like from your side. Two questions, and one line each is honestly plenty. ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- 👉 𝟭. 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗘𝗡𝗝𝗢𝗬 𝗠𝗢𝗦𝗧? A particular day, a prompt, something you made, something somebody else posted. Anything at all. ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- 👉 𝟮. 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗪𝗢𝗨𝗟𝗗 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗠𝗔𝗗𝗘 𝗜𝗧 𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗘𝗥 ? Anything that got in your way, anything you wanted more of, anything that did not quite work for you. ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ❤️ 𝙋𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙗𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙡𝙮 𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙩. 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙝𝙪𝙧𝙩 𝙢𝙮 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙭𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙞n𝙜𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙥 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 👇 𝗣𝗼𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝘄. A sentence is plenty, and if you only want to answer one of the two, that is absolutely fine. Thank you for turning up this week. Whether you did all seven days or one 💛 🔥🔥🔥 𝗣𝗦 — bits of what you write here might end up on a post or a page somewhere, to help somebody who is nervous about joining in, and 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗪𝗢𝗨𝗟𝗗 𝗕𝗘 𝗧𝗢𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗔𝗡𝗢𝗡𝗬𝗠𝗢𝗨𝗦. If you would rather I did not use yours, just pop "𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀" at the end of your comment and I absolutely won't ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Please still comment either way, as I would love to hear your feedback ❤️ Thank you. 🙏 x -------------------------- @Tori Reid @Debbie Davies @Lisa Williams @Kimberly Puddester @Debbie Channing @Vickie Ransbury @Mary Ellison @Sammy Harris @Lisa Jackson @Rebecca Schraeder @Janice Coppola @Valerie Simoen @Nikki Farquhar

I really liked seeing the others works. I also enjoyed the encouragement. 2. What could have made it easier? Nothing you can change. I need to be more organized.
