Groove, Drum libaries and beat software
Hi y'all 😉 As a drummer i have anything from an acoustic kit, with multiple snares and cymbals, multiple mics, D-Drum triggers, an e-kit and a load of plugins, VST instruments, samples/loops and libraries, etc... Very much into the real acoustic thing, but always open/into hybrid and anything that's really groovy 😀 My favorites are Superior Drummer, EZ Drummer and BFD when using triggers and E-Drum. I have GGD, Hertz and such, but these are more metal oriented...I think, although GGD has some other libraries as well. I've noticed that some libraries work better, or more easily, with some E-drums. I also have a Maschine MK3 and Maschine Studio. Which is quite nice for beats. And I think it works fine with MPC beats, Maschine 3, Battery, etc.... I also have Loopcloud and Splice. I am very happy with the way Loopcloud integrates with my daws, and works easily with different tempos and notes/chords. What are your favorites, depending on what you aim for? What do you use for drums, drum replacement and beats? What do you use as software or favorite tool to make your beats? How good are your groove/beat making skills? Are you a drummer or need/want some knowledge/skills on rhythmic theory and such?

It's the hardest thing of all. And I'm a pro piano player. Such newfound respect for you drummers.

@Richie Drummer isn’t it true we all want what we don’t have?
Reno Mix
I’m really liking the way this is going, but I have a limited perspective on it. I’ve heard it too much. I know it’s very close but is it close enough to release that’s the question.

I think they are perfect. To me (for what it's worth) it sounds, as they say, "radio ready". It should play on an episode of Dutton Ranch, or whatever that Yellowstone spin off is called. Great job. I'm sure someone could make a suggestion here or there, but it's a keeper.

That's exactly what I experience too. I've ruined more songs than made them better by over thinking the damn things. Trust me. This sounds great.
Heartbreak …
I’m realizing i’ve been unintentionally abandoning the very thing I love. My heart honestly sank today how reckless I’ve been with my creativity. I say music matters to me… but I don’t protect it. I don’t schedule it. I don’t defend time for it. I don’t sit down with clear tasks. I don’t build consistent action. Instead, I wait for some ridiculous alignment of enough energy, enough inspiration, right mood. No distractions. Perfect mental weather. Such day never comes. NEVER. Why I keep expecting it to happen by itself? And why this constant negotiation before starting when music always loses? Every single day there’s a lot of intention but NO action. It feels like another quiet betrayal of something I deeply care about. What also hurts is realizing I’ve been hiding. Hiding in preparation. Hiding in overthinking. And of course, hiding in consumption mode. Constantly watching, learning, scrolling, collecting ideas… without creating. As if consuming content somehow counts as making music. It doesn’t. This realization honestly made me emotional these days. i never built a life that protects it. So I should stop waiting for magic and start building it now.

I think we've all been guilty of this. Lighten up on yourself. You've recognized it, you're not alone, and now you can move ahead. By the way...perfect mental weather...what a great metaphor. There's a song right there. If you're not going to use it, well.....Really creative RIGHT THERE!!!!

@Eric Coyne Sounds like you’ve earned self respect. That’ll carry you when nothing else will. Thanks for this.
Are you working behind the scenes or do you want fame that robs you of your freedom?
Sometimes your success doesn't require fame or having your name written for the world to see. We work behind the scenes, but our work is meticulously crafted and executed to the highest standard. Sometimes, it's better for someone to be behind the scenes than to be famous and have their freedom taken away. That's what we do as producers and writers.

I would HATE to be famous. Yeah, probably lots of money, but is that a good trade off for freedom not to comb my hair or say something stupid? I think respect is a far better dream than fame.
Logic Session Players use of Plugins
I was just noticing Logic automatically assigns a myriad of plugins to their session players. For example: Session Bass uses 9 plugins. Seems like a lot to me. Right? The one I use often is Session Drummer. When you use the producer packs the tracks are separated which is what I want so a drum kit is around 14-16 instruments plus rooms plus sub groups plus fx returns. In total it's about 24 tracks. No problem with the tracks but the plugins? 46! Wow! Am I wrong? And the routing? 32 sends! I mean it sounds okay but creates a chore for me. I have no trust of other people making that many decisions for me. I have to touch it all and evaluate it. Brings to mind another thread where a user was having CPU issues with Logic. Session players were my first thought. I have noticed things play fine unless and until you flip the widget to display all the individual tracks and / or try to edit midi if you have converted to midi which I eventually always do. The work around is to only make edits while the drums are in solo when the whole mix won't play without CPU problems. My ultimate workaround is to use a laptop as a midi player and offload the entire task to a 2nd computer. I bring the audio back via Danté using Danté Virtual Soundcard.

The first section gave us a Sweetwater analysis of DAWS. I found it ironic they didn't even mention Logic. Strange.

Please see my other post, if you haven't, about updating to Logic 12. Be very careful. The sounds are entirely a different animal than anything we've seen before. We might end up liking it, but it really confused me.
