I saw this post from Brock Johnson, and it visually explained something I’ve been trying to say for years. Most people don’t actually know what “high-quality” content looks like yet. So when they try to make “high-production” content, it often ends up feeling cheesy, over-edited, or like they’re trying way too hard. That’s why I make...and usually recommend starting with low-production content. Especially in the beginning. Unless you’re unusually talented at editing, storytelling, cinematography, etc. and can make something that genuinely stands out, adding more production doesn’t automatically make the content better. And most of us, myself included, aren’t there yet. I’ve also seen the same thing happen over and over again with other creators: You spend 6 hours editing one video. Transitions. B-roll. Graphics. Music. Captions. You post it… Absolutely flops. Then the next day you pull out your phone, film a 30-second video in 5 minutes, post it with almost no editing… And that’s the one that blows up. Production quality and content quality are not the same thing. Do you agree?
