How do you break a plateau?
Hey yall. Maybe I'm thinking too hard instead of skating but I've been doing the same moves for about 3 months and can't seems to break it. Feeling a bit stuck is all. Hope yall are doing good, off and on skates yknow?
1.What have you been doing the past 3 months ? and 2.What are your current skate goals?

Haiii Everybowdy! In the 80s I started with skating. There used to be a rink in town and I tried to be there from opening to close. Anywho, the rink closed, life got in the way…. and now I’m picking it up again. My level isn’t where I want it to be, but I’m already enjoying both the skate parties and the skate community as much as back in the day. Excited to see what I can pick up here in Skool. Love the SKA8SHOT YouTube channel, so I’ll bet I’ll be just happy here, 😁Let’s Roll !
yesss!!! welcome to the obsession 😄
Trail Skating Moves
Hi! I started skating regularly a few months ago. I want to move from practicing in a parking lot to getting out on more trails, but I’m still a little hesitant. What moves/techniques would you recommend learning/improving before trail skating? Thanks in advance!!

Have a solid stagger stance. weight is typically more on the back leg tail skating.. being able to do a quick baby march over patches of debris. knowing how to handle inclines/declines. soft wheels with a large diameter .

@Lacey Kostishack inclines are some serious legwork and traveling up on your toe stops when it gets to be too hard to push yourself up. Declines, really have weight on that back leg, if it's a short decline, not too steep, I'll just brace myself and ride it till it flattens out again..... if it's a longer stretch you go down in a serpentine pattern to slow down the downward momentum..... stopping on a long or sharp decline is the biggest challenge, it usually requires turning backwards and using your toe stops while in stagger stance..... I recommend scouting out any trails on foot first to make sure it's not too hilly before you skate it.... once you've got a few trail miles under your belt and know what you can handle then you don't need to scout out beforehand, and every new trail will be a new adventure 😄
Tips for practicing?
Hi! Does anyone have any tips on doing drills to get a movement down? For example, how long to spend on a practice session, how many times to practice one movement, how many movements to practice in a session? Any guidance or experience is greatly appreciated.

@Maryellen Cronin the sk8rfit App is great, it is a series of videos, over 200, and they teach a solid progression of skate skills and drills. For virtual one on one or private coaching, you would need to schedule an appointment on his calendly page for a brief phone meeting with him to discuss where you are on your skate journey and what you need help with or what it is you're looking to improve.

@Maryellen Cronin the app is useful, but it is not real time lessons, they are videos. I think it's worth having... not sure what the price is right now. I think I purchased a year access to the app during black Friday sales 😄
Started taking lessons…
Hi! My name is Katie. I am 55 years old, and I started skating over a year ago. All I can do is skate forward (mostly with bubbles). I am so glad I found your skate videos… I love them. I find them very informative. I wish I lived in MO to take lessons there…but I live in Ohio. There are two skating rinks in Columbus, Ohio. I just recently found out that I can take lessons on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Just took my first lesson… I am so excited. Thank you KJ for putting this information online. You are a great instructor.
