homework & intro
My name is iyla a. stebbins (pronounced like "eye-luh"; I also use they/she pronouns). I'm a director, producer, actor, and more, and I am absolutely thrilled to be here. I was told the fancy name to use is "multi-hyphenate artist," but no matter what hat I am wearing on a project, my brand's pillars are to entertain people, promote the quality performance art in Detroit and the surrounding Michigan cities (also sometimes beyond since I am from the East Coast), and inspire people to carry the social justice themes of the show "beyond the script" to provoke actionable change in their community. I graduated with my MFA in Theatre Management from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, in May, where I led marketing campaigns for live theatre. In that role, I ran the theatre and dance department's social media account for three years. I had fun creating content about the different shows, and I have grown confident managing a brand for an organization/project/other people, but as soon as I think about opening a website for myself or putting effort into marketing MYSELF as a brand, my brain meets me with debilitating insecurity and anxiety. The perfectionist side of me is useful in my 9-5, but I've found it really stunts my ability to promote my personal creative work. Recently, I completed my first self-produced post-grad project, MACBITCHES by Sophie McIntosh, and received a lot of positive feedback on the production's overall marketing. Below are links to the "trailers" we shot for the play and promoted on my social media. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DbjhtpaOGje/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&stkn=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== https://www.instagram.com/reel/Dc1KM-Gu-D-/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&stkn=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== https://www.instagram.com/reel/Dcbk06pu-3X/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&stkn=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

@Yohanna Baez TWIN INDEED! We are in this together, and I am already feeling reinvigorated from the course. Just trying to remind myself that this shift is about me, but also it is SO MUCH BIGGER THAN THAT!

Brieana, this is excellent advice, thank you! I will take it with me as I work on the marketing campaign for the next play I'm producing in January. Thank you for the kind words! I spent a lot of time over the last three years building relationships and learning about Metro Detroit press (and still have a LOT to learn and meet), but it was cool to see those all come together to benefit a personal project. I think those relationships are deprioritized in the days of social media (I know I did sometimes), but it turns out alllll these places also have social accounts with great connections! Seeing so many faces from the city I'd never met buy a ticket to a play I produced was unbelievable and really gave the whole team a huge boost.
Intro & Homework
Hi! I’m Brieana. I have been wanting to film content for years, and then I suddenly had to be the face of a brand and realized that I wanted to make my vision come to life, and not just for work. My brand is ofplantsandprose …because I love plants and I love books. (It’s an older name!). My Why: I really have been trying to get off my phone and share things I’m excited about that aren’t work in general, especially after dealing with a vicious bout of burnout (and sickness) this year. I wanted to feel passionate about things that weren’t also tied to my employer. So My Why has definitely been trying to enjoy hobbies and connect with people about them, even beyond my general scope. I’ve really loved cozy content creators who “feel” like they could be your friends chatting (though I understand they’re not with the whole parasocial thing!), and I like the idea of being someone that people can go to when they’ve had a long day to just listen to about work or things they can recommend. (Or, honestly, to affirm that we all go through some things!) My Pillars: Authentic, Connectivity, Cozy. I want to give recommendations and build out my community of hobbies to share to people, and, again, be that person people go to to for nerdy conversations. Content: I’m only on Instagram for now (though I’ve taken my username on Youtube!). I have a few things I’m really proud of: Female Led Books after the you watch the Odyssey. I also went viral with the Netflix Documentary Trend for Plants. I'm glad I did it because it got me in front of a lot of people, but I didn't want to try and make a habit of only doing trending things!!

you're totally getting my follow! I love a lot of the words you are sharing, and relate deeply. Trying to get off my phone but feeling a little frazzled about how to make content creation part of my personal brand, but also not let it consume me. I produce a lot of theatre, and believe the focus should always be on the script/performance (in your case plants/books). However, I also totally understand the value of audience experience/outreach, but it takes so. much. time. Your pillars are really fun and inviting, looking forward to following along your journey!
Intro and Homework
Greetings fellow content cuties! My name is Aikita, I go by Kiki Jonez online, and I’m here because I went viral and didn’t know what to do with it. I’m a Black Millennial mom from the PNW and I want to make content that is true to my identity and experiences. The pillars of my brand and my “Why’s” are as follows: Brand Pillars: Witty • Authentic • Fun My Three ‘Why’’s” 1. Share my digital diary - the internet is first and foremost for ME. I want to document my life and hopefully it’s interesting enough for other people to share in the journey with me. 2. Showcase Blackness in the PNW - I don’t think there is an accurate depiction of how “we” show up and show out in the Pacific Northwest. There is a small but rich Black culture in Washington/Oregon/Alaska and we’ve made and continue to make great changes in the PNW. 3. Entertain people with my brand of humor - I think I’m witty and entertaining. My humor is definitely influenced by my surroundings and upbringing, so I hope others enjoy MY brand of it. Lastly, please enjoy my stop on your way up cringe mountain by enjoying the video attached. It was from me and my friends girls trip to Denver, CO during Juneteenth.

Homework and introduction
Hey Yall! My name is Rachel Kimsey. I’m an actor, voice actor and coach and I’m here because I’ve never really understood what my brand is or how I am perceived. My Why is to build connection and community. My pillars are Empathy, Education and Entertainment. Since having kids I’ve posted a lot more to stories than to the main grid, which I need to change, but I think this post is fairly accurate to who I am.

Fellow actor here, who also feels a lot of confusion regarding my perception (oh, the irony). Really excited to grow together in this course!
Believe In Maybe
Hi folks! My name is Maybe Burke (she/her). Currently on hiatus from making content regularly, hoping this course can help me get going again with purpose and intention. I run my own consulting and speaking business, Believe In Maybe, and mostly use social media to leverage gigs and clients. My brand's why? I give people the words they don't have. My expertise has been taking complex topics, usually around gender and social justice, and helping people gain the vocabularies to talk about them. In line with that, I thinks my content pillars are: Social Justice, Education (or Explanation?), and Humor. (If you're laughing, you're learning.) A recent proud post for me was my YouTube video about detransition: https://youtu.be/4QOij38FYqs?si=6Vdf9obE_OC4nUQ8 The title is "How People Detransition," but the video is a bit of a bait and switch to talk about how uncommon detransition is, and all the reasons trans people might participate in what would be seen as detransition. So excited to meet all y'all and see what you're working on!
